The Christmas Turkey

Every year we get the same old story about all the Christmas Turkeys getting Bird flu.

They said a long time ago,  to keep any poultry indoors because it is the wild birds who bring this disease.
I remember consumers complaining about so-called Free Range Eggs - which weren't free range at all because their birds had to be shut in.
The egg  producers said they were just using the boxes up they had purchased!
Even if this was true,  the price charged for true free range is much higher than barn reared, so prices should have been reduced.

So now its Christmas again,  and once again Bird Flu is rife.
There was a farmer on telly last week saying how he has lost his huge, entire Christmas turkey flock because of this disease,  and he won't be the only one.  It's the same every year.

I would have thought half the trouble was because they are kept indoors in such close proximity.
Imagine if a thousand humans were shut in a barn for months.   It would only take one person to get flu, or Covid, or any other contagious disease,  and before you could blink,  almost everyone in that barn would probably be infected.   It seems clear to me, that the same applies to these birds.

If it is truly the wild birds bringing it,  how come Turkeys are still getting it when they are shut away from the wild birds ey?
So will you be buying one  for your dinner this year?

Turkeys right? Anything that ugly deserves to be eaten...I mean, wh has a pet turkey? Have you seen one being walked on a lead down your local park.
I don't like Turkey anyway...the bird..not the country ok?

I like turkey, bread sauce, pigs in blankets, roasties, sprouts etc. I think thats what our son is cooking this year.  Last year we had roast beef and Yorkshire puds.  He cooks, his choice. 😁

Great pic klondike!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖
