Do you always take or ask for a receipt in supermarkets  ?   Quite often the cashier asks 'would you like your receipt?'  suppose they're trying to save paper, I can't think of any other reason not to automatically give one out.  I always ask for mine wherever I go, apart from the garage when I get petrol.

That might change though as I've read of a fella who was contacted by the police re some crime involving his car.  Turns out robbers used fake plates and this man was miles away in the Midlands when the crime occurred.  Fortunately he had his petrol receipt proving he was many miles away at the time..

I very often do not take a receipt... Unless needed for returns..

Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I always take my receipt when paying by card,  otherwise I forget how much something costs.
Sometimes I take a cash receipt,  but not always.

Apparently there is a lot of this number plate trickery going on now.
I don't know a lot about it,  but there are special screws you can use to stop thieves nicking your plates when you're parked.

I bet there are special tools to undo them too...

Our Co-op never gives you a receipt, it annoys me and I'll ask for one, just to upset their grumpy cashier. Tesco always gives me one. Both in Thurso and Wick.

I always get one. Couple of reasons one being I tend to shop bagful at a time calling in on the way back from a walk or the gym and prefer to have a receipt should I ever get stopped (not happened so far but..)

The other reason is I use Google rewards and they sometimes offer a free coppers to spy on me and where I've shopped  by uploading a snap of the receipt.

Marge doesn't bother to wait for a receipt, relying on the purchase having been recorded on her credit card.
I keep suggesting to her that to wait for a second or two to pick up the receipt will prevent accusations of theft and a more protracted time in attempting to prove the purchase through online records.

I like to have small things to fill the gaps in my recycling bin too

I did read somewhere that they can't be recycled but I'm not sure how true that is.

If you have a cc app it should show the pending purchase pretty quickly but it's only an amount of money not a list of all the items in your bag. The till receipt is still a quicker proof.

What annoys me is, places who say they are saving paper so don't give receipts.   (Dunelm is one such).
Then they ask for your email address to send the receipt too.

I only fell for that once,  and gave them my email address,  only to be bombarded with junk mail ever after.
Ever since then,  I always ask for a proper, paper receipt.
