Most vacuum cleaners are a lot cheaper and last a lot longer.

As did diesel cars before all the emission prevention kit was mandated. Now they are more expensive to maintain, less reliable and manage a lot less mpg.

Going back to running costs of the new generation of milk floats tyres wear out quicker and are a lot more expensive. Going by the wear rate they probably create more particulates than modern diesels and certainly cause more road wear with their higher weight and torque.
