QuoteYears ago my father in law used to take baking powder, a half teaspoon in some warm water.  A big burp later and his problem was gone.
Alex.. Could it be Bicarbonate of Soda that you meant rather then baking powder..!!
I shall certainly look at your link.. Thank you..

I am surprised at how many of us use Omeprazole..
I am going to stop using it and try something else such as Gaviscon chewable tablets should I need them..

I think its worth a try with the Gaviscon, Scrumpy.   That's the only way to find out anyway.
I would have thought  perhaps the liquid might get to your tummy quicker than tablets though, do you think?
I don't mind the taste of that too.
Hope it works out for you.

Quote from: klondike on Yesterday at 06:28:40 PMUp to you but it is contrary to what I was specifically told to do by somebody in the hospital (probably a registrar) and the reason he gave which is that the acid will leak when you are laying down but not when upright so take it at night makes sense to me.

I'll try just not taking them again and see how that goes. I do get the Gaviscon or sometimes a cheap alternative on prescription but don't take that often and replace the bottle if I open it as it goes pretty manky once opened and left.
It might be as well to check with the pharmacist if it is safe to stop the Omoprazole suddenly, Klondie,  or whether it would be wiser to taper them off gradually,   only because you have taken them for so long though.

I do agree with you that it seems somewhat unusual to take them in the mornings though,  especially mixed  with other meds,  but apparently you can take them twice a day.
My pharmacist tells me some drugs do not mix, and to take them 2hrs apart,  but it depends on the drug of course.    I always ask though,  as better to be safe than sorry.

Just found this on the NHS website about mixing drugs:

There are some medicines, remedies and supplements that may not mix well with omeprazole.
These include:

  • other medicines that reduce stomach acid, such as lansoprazole and famotidine
  • the heart medicine digoxin
  • some medicines to prevent blood clots, such as warfarin and clopidogrel
  • the sedative diazepam
  • the anti-seizure medicine phenytoin
  • the herbal remedy for low mood, St John's Wort
  • HIV medicines called nelfinavir and atazanavir

Before you take omeprazole, tell your doctor or a pharmacist if you're talking any other medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements.

If you bought omeprazole without a prescription, check the packet or leaflet that comes with the medicine to see if it's suitable for you. Speak to a pharmacist or doctor if you're not sure if you can take it.

Food and alcohol with omeprazole

You can eat as normal while taking omeprazole, but it's best to not drink alcohol because it can increase the amount of acid in your stomach and make your symptoms worse.

Loads more here if anyone wants to check.

Interestingly, I already suffer from the final common side effect, without any help from omeprazole .
Numquam credere Gallicum

klondike

I've found that food has that effect on me

Or possibly it's breathing.

Like the reflux inherited from my father.

Off topic...

My father and mother were on a guided tour of the Victory in London. My poor father felt one coming on and realised that in the tour group going through the narrow passageways this would  be antisocial so he stepped back a way and into a tiny room to relieve the pressure. He left and carefully closed the door. The tour guide was making his way back past the group and soon came to the door which he announced was the bacon store as he ushered a couple inside. The man pulled a face and said bloody hell I can still smell it.

🤣🤣🤣  No matter where you may be, always let your wind fly free.  My philosophy is that if we didn't do it, we'd explode.  And another thing: contrary to what some people believe, women do it too!

Very true, Scrumpy -  and may I say, as well as your curry and kebabs pongs,  don't forget blocked drains too  . . .  and that's on a good day!
