Google fuel from air.  It's a real thing.

Quote from: Dextrous63 on September 19, 2025, 12:36:31 PMNot really overly related, but does anyone remember anything about being able to "gather" petrol from the air?  I have a vague recollection of someone trying to do this.

AI Overview
"Fuel from air" refers to a process where a machine captures carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and converts it into liquid fuels using renewable energy sources like sunlight.

CO₂ isn't petrol. Nor are synthetic fuels. I hadn't come acros that method of making synthetic fuels but there are certainly a lot of ways. The Germans were doing it throughout WW2 although mostly from coal I think.

Now if you'd said gets CO₂ and that plus energy are used to produce a fuel I wouldn't have scoffed.

Fair enough.  It was a while ago and was partly about using the fuel to power cars.  I naturally put two and two together to get my usual five. 🥴😳

What's the best way to find out the approximate value of our car without going  back to the dealer?

As I said earlier,  my insurance is up for renewal soon,  and one of the things the  'Go Compare'  website asks is what is the approximate value of the vehicle.

The local Fiat dealer is gone from round here now,  so I can't ask them.

You could try webuyanycar. If its old just guess it won't make much difference.

You'll get better cashback from TopCashBack's own car insurance compare than any of the comparison sites. I use their comparisons for house car and broadband. I think I got £45 back on car insurance last time. It usually takes a few months to get paid. They actually just use comparison sites anyway but you get cashback instead of a useless cuddly toy, cinema tickets or whatever the others offer.

If you use this affiliate link to sign up with topcashback we both get something as a bonus. https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/digitalham

I have never heard of them Klondie.   I will have a read of your link tomorrow,  thank you.

The ones I am with at the mo, have been very good over the prang though,  I was pleasantly surprised.
No doubt it will push my payment up on renewal though!

They said there will be no charges to me whatsoever, as they intend to claim of the other bloke's insurance.
They are taking my car in  next Tuesday.   I just hope I can drive their loan one alright.

Staying with them could be a good move. Just make sure you check the renewal and you can always phone them and try to get a reduction if you have some other prices

I've used Topcashback for years. I used to use Quidco but swapped over for some reason. I use their browser extension and you can just use that to enable cashback. I buy a fair bit of stuff from AliExpress and get good cashback on anything I buy there but the big payouts are the three I mentioned and it used to be swapping energy supplier but I don't bother with that now.

Worth joining IMO as not using them is just turning down free money. Pity Amazon don't pay any.

My account overview with them..

Pending £18.71
Confirmed £0.00
Payable £13.69
Claimed £1,288.45
Total Earned £1,320.85

Webuyanycar are rip-off merchants. Paid me£250 for a WAV when a grand would have been par. Guy went round it knocking off two hundred here there and everywhere. Veronica was very ill at the time, or I would have told him to get lost.

Blimey is that still going. I used to love that when I were't lad.

Looks like the business model has moved on from then though.

Not a bad idea though -  just find a similar one up for sale.
