I think Scotland abd Wales have had a left leaning political bias for a long time.

Have either country ever had a majority of Conservative MPs? No. For as long as I remember had Scotland been independent there would have been no Conservative government.

Wales had no taste for independence and probably is not viable alone. I doubt Scotland could be either but Raven and many others would disagree.

The reason we have a Labour government now is simply because of the Tory failures to enact Conservative policies with the result we started to go downhill. Oddly the younger generation, as they so often are  were hoodwinked into thinking that Labour would fix things. By the time the current shower get kicked out there may be no Labour party left as once again few will think they are the answer.

Scotland elected Humza Yousaf .
Not a great choice for a leader whose sympathies don't even lie with this country .

He was awful.  Sadly if you stick 'Scottish' in front of any party name, they'll get votes.  Their policies are already hitting medium earners as they pay more income tax in Scotland.  Earn over £26.5k and the income tax rate goes up by 1%.

Scottish universities are struggling, laying off lots of staff.  Free tuition is fine if your country can afford it.

No No, The SNP Government had to use their voting system when Nicola left. It was them who voted Humza Yousaf in as leader, nothing to do with the people of Scotland. We just had to put up with him though many were unhappy with the choice and would much rather have had Kate Forbes.

I believe that there is still a strong hope for Scottish independence in Scotland.
Personally, I have Scottish friends and relatives and certainly have no disliking of Scottish people, but there does seem to be a strong feeling of being apart from England.  I'm not sure exactly why this is, other than pride in their own country which, of course, is a good thing.
However, when such a feeling extends to a dislike or even hatred of England and the English I find this rather frightening.  The same would apply if there was an English hatred of Scotland.
I am all in favour of pride in one's nationality, but I strongly believe that if the people of the two countries could stand together as one, the UK would be a much better and a much stronger nation.

Incidentally, as a Yorkshireman, I proudly state that Yorkshire people are the best in the world bar none!

I don't think it will happen. None of our Scots family, who love Scotland, but like many in these islands have mixed British heritage, are SNP supporters.  They're financial realists if nothing else.

I consider myself Scottish, with lots of Macs and other Scottish surnames in my family tree, but my DNA shows only 55%.  Irish and English make up most of the rest.

just been reported that the SNP finances are in a mess - something like half a million in debt. Membership is also dropping - a few years ago it was claimed to be 120,000, now 54,000.
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

Wouldn't you be worried if the government said "we agree, off you trot.  All the best"?  I would, since it'd mean they know something you don't, and that something ain't going to be for your advantage!

Raven

Very little from Westminster is done for Scotlands advantage. All they seem to do is drain us of our assets.
That Booty Bag should read Westminster or London. NOT England. But it's the way it's seen up here.

Dextrous63

If you did depart from the union, would Scotland re-join the EU?

Raven

Possibly, but I think they would have to have a vote on it. Not all Scots voted for Brexit so I think they would ask.
