They all work on very similar frequencies. Usually there's some method to choose between a small number of different frequencies or the more sophisticated ones have a code number that can be changed and the bell only rings if it gets a signal with the correct code.

Agreed, but I suspect that the very fine (and not entirely comprehensible) print may be unhelpful,

Hence I reiterate my view of irritating the hell out of him as a first port of call.😉

It's usually only a small bank of dip switches in each device that you match up

Sorry, but haven't got a clue what is meant by frequencies and codes.
I unplugged it from the wall yesterday, and fiddled about with the 'melodies'  you can set, then plugged it back in.    so far - so good.

I also wondered if this intense heat could affect it.   Some reports reckon it can,  so with my highly intelligent mind in gear I stuck a bit of tin foil over the outside push button.

It seems to be behaving again at the mo,  so whether it was unplugging it, or the tin foil, or just coincidence,  I am keeping my fingers crossed.
If it starts again,  the new bell I ordered has arrived, so I will have to change them over.
Meantime, I will have a nose at my neighbours bell later today as well.

Thank you for all your ideas fellas.    :upvote:  x

Perhaps you could experiment further by wearing tin foil on your head?  This might have a secondary bonus of reflecting the sun's heat away from it and thus keep you cool.

Tried that yesterday.  It didn't work.

By the way,  I had a look next door this morning,  and he hasn't changed his broken bell,  so we can rule that out.

I still reckon its something to do with this intense heat shining straight on from mid-morning till dark.

Just googled and found this:

Yes, wireless doorbells can be affected by hot weather, potentially leading to malfunctions or performance issues. Excessive heat can cause the doorbell's internal components to overheat, which may result in the chime not ringing, the video feed malfunctioning, or the doorbell even shutting down entirely.

Didn't say phantom ringing though....

Well that is a 'malfunction'  isn't it?

BTW,  I forgot to try it this morning to check its still working.

Perhaps you could remind me tomorrow - if you remember.

My doorbell is a Blink bell, it's pretty good I think Klondy has one too.    My lad has put up a Blink camera for me on the gate, so if anyone comes down the drive I get a ' ping ping'

I use a cheap PIR detector for announcing callers before they arrive. Bloody Amazon have still gone before I get there of course though.

Similar to this but I'm sure mine was cheaper although I bought it a while ago before Rachel from Complaints tanked the pound.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/356905187123  (bit cheaper than the first I found)

The sensor goes outside and the ringer box inside.

I do have issues with the Blink when not using their cloud service. I suspect that it is deliberate but there is quite a delay getting a live view or seeing a clip when you are away from home. Could be dodgy mobile signals I suppose but usually I'm too late to talk to the caller. Mind you many just press the bell (if you are lucky) then dump and scoot.

We don't have a doorbell, just 2 Watch Horses who make a lot of noise when someone arrives. Dageus used to bark the place down when he heard a noise.
We always know when someone's arrived.

Both times a year?

As in you have visitors twice a year?

Raven

What on earth are you talking about.  :nooo:

I'm off to bed, goodnight.
