No not really about my hair, I know some people believe that older ladies should only have short hair, my mother was one and we had some real rows about it. She never used to say hello to me, I was always greeted with "not got that bloody hair cut yet" I guess it's left me more than a bit iffy about the subject.  :busted:

As for the rest, it's been happening for several years, not every post/thread but enough. I know being a Scot and also a Highlander makes me different, different culture, different opinions. Some people don't like that.

Do you remember on the mother ship a member called Bee? She was active during the Brexit referendum, she was not wanting to leave the EU and felt driven to leave the forum because she was getting it from all sides, it's not easy being different. But different I am, being from the Isles originally has me sometimes at odds with mainland Scots (usually lowlanders) as again we are a different culture, do and think so much differently.

But, love me or loathe me, I'm me and I can't change, nor do I want too. ☺️

Quote from: Mups on July 09, 2025, 09:22:30 AMScrumps,  like most things,  there's two ways of looking at it.

I know when someone is talking it can suddenly jog your memory about another matter altogether.
Fair enough.  Most people would probably say 'Sorry,  what were you saying'?  and get back on topic,  but it often occurs on forums that once the topic is broken,  it never gets back on course.

In other words,  imagine you were talking to me about something serious like a health problem or finances or something that was worrying you,  and I suddenly changed the subject to my new shoes, or how much it costs to go to Majorca, or whether to cut the grass or not,    how would you feel?

And if this happened every time you tried again,  well I can well imagine anyone feeling pretty pee'd off.

I'm just trying to see both sides.

I have better manners then to make foolish comments on threads that are serious..
I respect those that have or are going through any sadness be it over a pet .. friend.. partner..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Ah yes confusion. This is what happens when threads that go off topic get split into separate ones.

I think I'll revert to my usual way of tackling such things  - shrugging my shoulders and ignoring it all.

Yes I know you do, Scumpy.  x

Most people do .🙂

Like Alex, I haven't a clue what this is about!  Hopefully I haven't been rude to anyone?

All our experiences in life are different, although I'm also a Scot like Raven, I'm not from the highlands, and I no longer live there.  Mike, on'tother hand, is a Southerner who does live in Scotland.   We all may have quite different views about politics, but I've never known it become toxic on here unlike the original PF, especially in my early days.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

It is all bloody childish GrannyMac..

Moaning about threads going off topic.. They always have..
Only a handful on here and still we get them what gripe..
Lovely forum... A place to come to when we need to..
One day Mark will 'pull the plug' and we will all go down the drain..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Ta Scrumpy, I'll continue in happy oblivion then.  Threads, like conversations, meander.  Especially at our age.  What were we saying? 😊. I love this little forum.

I agree.  This is the one forum which I use every day, depending how busy I am.  The other thing is that it is, as its name suggests, a friendly forum where I see very little strong disagreements, not that that is a bad thing as polite disagreements make things more interesting.

There is a difference between moaning and observation.
If one observes that any topic will be derailed to something trivial why would anyone start a topic ?
Why bother having different threads at all ?
Just have one big banter forum ?
We are mature adults and are not all the same .
Friendly is good infantile is not .

GrannyMac

Most topics here don't get derailed IME.  I rarely visit the Mother Ship because some  HAVE to enforce their opinions too strongly and I'm not interested in point scoring.

I don't think there is anything wrong with robust discussion in the appropriate threads or putting one's point strongly .
I don't know what you mean about point scoring .
If someone wants to discuss something and they put their points supported by facts I can't see anything wrong with that .

But that is not going off topic .

If someone starts a thread about goldfish and someone else derails the topic by talking about their holiday in Bognor that is off topic ( and also rude )

I do think a certain amount of meandering is acceptable topics do wander but you can easily tell a deliberate derailment .

I've just realised, Raven, that you've turned into a little black sparrow!
