Yes, it has made me now determind not to start anymore threads. I'll also be keeping most of my thoughts on certain subjects to myself.

If people don't start threads you can say goodbye to there being a forum.

On the subject of extremist rallies, I wonder whether anyone can advise me of any way to prevent a tall, metal flower container in my garden blowing over in the wind?

I have that trouble with a container. I stuck a heavy chunk of stone in the bottom. fine now.

Only too well aware of that Klondie, but it does get a bit of a pain having what you post jumped on and torn to bits. Kidding or not, some people just can't help themselves.

Thanks, Raven.  A simple solution which hadn't crossed my mind.
I shall inform Marge, as she is in charge of the gardening department.

It also occurs to me to ask her whether there are any holes in the bottom of the container, as if not it will just fill up with water when it rains.  Of course, I suppose that if there are holes in the bottom it won't be possible to pour some water in to feed the flowers.  A bit of a dilemma.  I'd better ask Marge.

There are holes in the bottom of all plant pots to prevent a build up of water rotting off the plant roots. The pot is then stood in a shallow saucer like pot so that excess water just runs off.

Dextrous and Vlad.. and Diasi (sometimes)..
 Notorious for going off topic..
They don't seem to be posting anymore.. I , for one, miss them..
They brightened up some threads..
We are all adults here..
Some of us live on our own and a forum is the only way we make contact with the outside..
Very sad to see discontent among it's (few) members..

I had more fun talking to Muddy about Co-op dates.. She maybe a stickler for going on about Israel
but she does have a sense of humour..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I had a fox knock over a planter so I tied it to a tree.

Scrumps,  like most things,  there's two ways of looking at it.

I know when someone is talking it can suddenly jog your memory about another matter altogether.
Fair enough.  Most people would probably say 'Sorry,  what were you saying'?  and get back on topic,  but it often occurs on forums that once the topic is broken,  it never gets back on course.

In other words,  imagine you were talking to me about something serious like a health problem or finances or something that was worrying you,  and I suddenly changed the subject to my new shoes, or how much it costs to go to Majorca, or whether to cut the grass or not,    how would you feel?

And if this happened every time you tried again,  well I can well imagine anyone feeling pretty pee'd off.

I'm just trying to see both sides.

The problem with keeping threads on topic is that people frequently don't and the only way to enforce it is with moderators. Most mods I've come across on forums can be heavy handed and frequently make themselves unpopular. I've walked away from more than one forum because I found the moderation to be irritating and as often as not it wasn't even my stuff being moderated.

Over on the first spinoff forum from PF which I joined shortly after this one was started somebody started a word game and one of the mods started inventing new rules for the game which somebody else had started. There was other stuff that she did I don't recall but I did quickly decide that it wasn't the sort of place I wanted to spend time on.

Was this the discussion about long hair ?  I just can't recall any of your posts being " torn to bits".
