Lorne Castle, a police officer previously decorated for bravery, has been sacked for tackling a teen with a knife.

He may have gone OTT, but does it warrant dismissal?

Unfortunately I can't see that link, Granny.
It's one of those that won't let me watch unless I pay up, so I can't really comment I'm afraid.

I think the ones who should have got sacked though, were the ones a week or so ago, who pepper-sprayed and tasered that 92 yr old man in a care home who had a small kitchen knife.
Poor old bugger couldn't even get out of his wheelchair to do any harm to them.

I don't pay, just watched an ad.

And I agree re the old man, that was so unnecessary!  He presented no threat at all.

'Lack of curtesy and respect' !!!
That's a laugh.. The kid was carrying a knife..
So, the cop threw him up against a wall.. boo hoo!!

I bet the cop became a laughing stock of the boy and his mates..

The police officer should never have been sacked .. I hope there is a public outcry in his defence..
If not.. Kids out there will think they are 'untouchable '...
The cocky kid will be advised to sue..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Alex

I think a colleague of the officer has started some kind of fund raising site for him.  This is just disgraceful, I bet the teenagers are laughing their socks off.

The police, certainly that local force, should consider going on strike.  There is no reason that I can see to punish a copper for doing his job, and what will the other coppers now do if they encounter a similar circumstance.

There is something worryingly wrong with this country lately.

Good question,  JBR.

A member of the public rang for assistance for the officer because other youths had arrived and the officer had his hands full. The Police Officer was on TV with Nigel Farage earlier, he's appealing the dismissal.  I hope he wins.

So do I.
To be honest, I'm not sure what's happening with the police these days.  I hear so much about police trying to arrest people for doing nothing or for saying the wrong thing.  And now we hear of a copper who has been sacked for doing the right thing.
I look forward to hearing about this, and its consequences, on GB News.

If the police don't back up their own officers when the need to get heavy handed for their own protection then they will become even less effective and fewer will want to become one. That said I don't doubt that some can be nasty sods. This was only a teenager if a wayward one and it was a Stanley knife - not knife but not as vicious as many are. A short video of only part of the confrontation makes it impossible to come to any conclusion IMO.

This rings clearly of failings at the top: those high-flying university graduates lacking common sense.

I believe they have before but as I said in this case the clip isn't enough to make a judgement IMO. His bosses would have had a lot more information.

I anyone could have disarmed that poor old man who only had one leg .
A pillow would have done it

He died a short while after .

Interesting.

"The shocking footage shows how PC Lorne Castle grabbed the 15-year-old boy, who was suspected of assault, pushed him into a wall before slamming him into the ground and proceeded to place his hand over the youth's face while shouting threats and curse words."

Perhaps a little over the top, but no serious injuries, and bear in mind that the kid was armed with a knife.
In my opinion, the authorities failing to support the police and, in this case, condemning the copper in that way, is probably going to encourage the police to turn a blind eye in order to avoid criticism or even punishment.

Perhaps when the situation in this country becomes even worse, and the police decide it's safer not to make too much of an effort, the pen-pushers at the top might begin to think again.

The Police are a strange lot these days. Not anything like the policemen of my youth.
