This guy is plumping for problems integrating renewables with the grid. Another entirely possible cause and if course another one they'd like to keep under wraps.

From some random news story...

The cause of the outages remains under investigation, and officials with Portuguese energy company Redes Energéticas Nacionais have denied reports that it was tied to an "atmospheric phenomenon," according to The New York Times. Spanish President Pedro Sánchez has urged people not to speculate.

Dream on.     Of course the world is going to speclulate.

What the chap in the film didn't explain was how the company had managed the grid up to yesterday and what happened to cause it to shut down. I don't dispute his explanation of inertia but on 16th April, just a couple of weeks ago, Spain boasted that it had met all its demand from wind and solar. There's no reason to think the public behaved any differently in terms of turning their kettles on and off, so what was different about Monday 28th April?.

I've seen stuff that said there were some industrial sites last week that were getting drop outs. Might have been that video.

It's bad news for the politicians whatever the cause. If it does turn out to be problems integrating renewables or cyber attack there is certainly going to be dissatisfaction as a primary responsibility of a government is to ensure there are procedures in place that protect against this sort of thing.

As per klondikes video clip, my money's on a combination of a supply & demand issue with the added factor of solar farms having no inertia.

There was a similar power outage in a part of Lincolnshire last week but it didn't make the news.
