thanks folks - last few weeks were a vicious circle. Because I hurt I didn't exercise. Because I didn't exercise I got more wobbly, etc.

How about a home treadmill? Needs one with rails to be safe of course. I bought a static bike but sitting there pedalling is tedious and I rarely use it - but I can still get out and walk OK at the moment.

got one - had it years and normally spend at least a few minutes on it every day - when Veronica was still with us I did 20  minutes a day but I'm older now and - except these last three weeks or so when I have been in too much pain - I average around 6

Mike you really must move more every day. When I was unable to do swimming or dog walking after I smashed up my knee I sat in front of the computer and ran through this, you may find it helps you.
Give it a try, you've nothing to lose.

Many thanks Raven. Yesterday I did some of my normal exercises for the first time for about three weeks and will be continuing. Some of those exercises on the video Mary, my sister-in-law - who is an experienced yoga practitioner already had me doing but some there were new to me and will be added (but not everything at once!)

Raven's right. It's use it or lose it!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Exactly.  Atrophy needs to be countered.
