Wouldn't surprise me if Labour wanted a maximum voting age too, for obvious reasons.

It amazes me that children want the vote... Because they want to act all grown -up..
Yet use their age to avoid responsibility of any crime they carry out..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

This wicked person should have been made to sit in court and hear the verdict imho, straightjacket if necessary.

Perhaps they could arrange for the sentencing and the victim statements to be played on a repeat look in his cell for a few months/years.

Quote from: Scrumpy on January 24, 2025, 12:21:59 PMMy vote goes to the most painful one.. and the one that takes the longest..

I can't imagine the pain that some have caused their victims to suffer..

I can't imagine the pain of the parents who have lost a child by the brutal hands of a killer..
Their pain will go on forever..

Why should the killer have a painless death.. ?
I can see your logic, and I admit that it makes a great deal of sense.
If a criminal causes a particularly painful death for his victim, he should suffer the same level of pain and anguish.  That seems perfectly logical and fair to me.

In addition, if such a form of death was to be performed in public it would have the additional value of demonstrating the horror of it to other potential criminals.  I'm sure it would very effectively dissuade potential murderers even more than the form of quick and painless hanging.

Clearly, Labour are desperate to obtain another 'innings', and the more perceptive members of that government must surely realise that there is virtually no chance of that happening - due to their own ineptitude.

The obvious solution is to hand the right to vote to the young impressionable and easily persuaded.

Of course he should, I completely agree with you, Alex.

They said on his first court appearance, the judge asked him to stand,  and he refused.
They then asked him his name - again he refused to say.

Why do they let them get away with this behaviour!!

He is playing a game.. He knows exactly what is asked of him..
He is playing the 'I'm not right in the head ' card...
He knows that no-one would dare MAKE him do something he has no intention of doing..

Give him short bursts of electric shocks if he refuses to behave .. Powerful enough to get him on his feet..
Powerful enough to get his tongue working..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I don't understand this refusal to come into / behave in court .

Gaffer tape the mouth and limbs and drag them into court .

Can't be difficult to create a soundproof box with speakers in it, so people like him can rant and rave all they want, but nobody can hear them, but the speakers ensure they get to hear court proceedings.

Exactly what my OH said.

If this government decide to lower the voting age to 16, then the same age should apply when crimes are committed.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Quite.

As for the sealed and soundproofed pod I described, it also occurred to me that sedative gases could be introduced to it.  One such example in this case being formed from ricin in a suitable solvent, since he obviously had a penchant for this and it'd help remind him of home.

I can see some sense in freedom to vote being related to responsibility.  However, I have heard of so many young people behaving stupidly and even dangerously and this contradicts any suggested ability of them to vote sensibly if they can't behave sensibly.

If anything, I'd prefer to see the voting age increased, perhaps to 20 or more years of age.  On the other hand, penalties for misbehaviour could at the same time be available for younger people, such as this prime example of criminality committed as young as 16.

Certainly, what we are seeing today is a failure of many parents to instil responsibility and good behaviour in their children which, I'm sure, was the norm wen ah wer a lad, and this was undoubtedly caused by such new ideas as the 'no smacking' rule.  It is only to be expected.
