I bought a cheap wireless PIR alarm from eBay ages ago. It sits behind the front wall, points towards the front door and sets off a really loud and annoying alarm in the house that I can hear from just about anywhere indoors. It sets off before the doorbell and if needed gives time to check the screen to see who is coming before they press the bell.

Does that have to be plugged in ?

Mine runs on one or two AAs that run for ages. I did put the indoor bit on a mains adapter as I had one to hand but that could be batteries too.

The outdoor bit is probably fairly waterproof but I made it a little shelter out of some block pavers I had laying around. It gives few false alerts but isn't absolutely immune. When the olives drop from my tree a local blackbird can drive me mad and occasionally litter blowing in from the road can give some too.

I think it was about a tenner.

I'm not recommending this one as I know nothing about it  but mine is similar

There are a couple that show on that page that look the same and are cheaper. Eg this one

I have two Ring floodlight cameras at the back and two Tapo cameras looking out of front windows.

The Ring cameras record movement to t'internet, where recordings will be saved should the cameras be damaged or stolen.
The Tapo cameras record to internal SD cards, so if taken I will lose the recordings.  On the other hand, if the windows are smashed the house alarm will go off and the criminals will be visible to any neighbours opposite or to the side.

I took a picture of my PIR alarm in its little house then forgot all about it so I'll pop it in below. I only posted here again to say I put my Ring bell and a chime I bought later for it on eBay. The doorbell sold pretty much immediately which was a bit of a surprise as I expected the chime to go first.

Anyhow the PIR - I'd forgotten but I also gave it a little plastic house inside too which I cut from a 1 litre plastic container from something or other.

As its on the ground Klondy, does that just show legs and feet ? sorry it it's a daft question

It doesn't show anything. It just sounds an alarm in the house when someone or something (cats and blackbirds being prime culprits) moves near the front door.

The chime sold too. I took offers maybe I should have waited on the full price but they've gone and I have money for them so job done.
