Scrumpy

What would my mum think if she was living today.. !!

My daughter Marnie can see and talk to any caller at her door wherever she is ..
Her phone lets her know when someone is there...
She heard a friend talking to Richard her husband at the front door..
I couldn't believe it when I heard Richard's voice talking to the visitor....

What do you think your parents would find ( amazing) in this modern world of technology..?
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Things were pushing forward at one hell of a pace this last twenty years. Being cold and skint over the next twenty isn't a lot to look forward to though. My parents would have felt right at home with that.

Don't know where to start.  So many things nowadays.

Mum would have been fascinated that parents can track their children on their phones..

She wouldn't believe that people talk in thousands now when organizing a holiday..
It would have been enough for her to buy a house.. mortgage free..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

My 91 year old Dad who passed last month was a bit scared of technology but 2 years ago I bought him a Google assistant and a talking watch.  He was blind so the watch was brilliant for him.
The Google assistant was, he told me the best gift I ever bought him.  Google enriched his life as it helped with loneliness.  He talked to it such a lot, he got loads of laughs out of it and he learned a lot of knowledge from it.
He was fascinated how Google would answer him, it used to warm my cockles seeing how enthralled he was with that gift. He taught Google to call him 'Tony Love' lol.  He'd say, Hey Google, what's my name? and google would respond "your name is Tony Love" haha, such a fabulous memory.  I visited him every day and he would always have a tale to tell me what he had learned from Google that day or laugh about what google had said to him.

My Mother died 10 years ago and she didn't get on with technology like a lot of old folks.

That clip on PF (we call that the "mothership" btw) of him playing the piano,....was he blind when he played it?

Lion Queen

That clip was from around 8 years ago, he went completely blind in one eye years ago and started to lose vision in the 'good' eye around 10 years ago due to glaucoma, he didn't read music he played by ear.  I do have a clip of him playing when he went completely blind, he played it in the care home 12 months ago, that was the last time he ever played.  I'll dig it out.  He was on 'Look North' because I shared it on our local towns facebook page and a reporter saw it and approached me to ask if he could do a write up about my Dad being blind and playing.
I'll see if I can dig it out.

Please do LQ, plus re-post the clip on here as not everyone on here visits PF (Pensioners Forum, to save you wondering😉).

Sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. My mum was also blind from Glaucoma, but still played the guitar and violin unchanged until she died at the age of 95.

That' brilliant.  I am so glad I took lots of videos.  If there is one regret I have in life is that I never filmed my Mother and she was an amazing soprano singer.  I can still hear her beautiful voice in my head even after 10 years but I can't share with others how good she was.  Do you have videos of your Mum playing?

Here is my Dad playing when he went blind completely.  It's a facebook video so people who don't have facebook won't be able to watch it :-( Hopefully you have it Dexy
