Explosion in Ilford

Two people have been rushed to hospital after a terraced house in east London went up in flames in a dramatic explosion.

Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were called to the blaze on Ley Street in Ilford just after 4pm on Tuesday, which caused the house's first floor and loft conversion to go up in flames.

Years ago 'electrical fault' would be the first thing in my mind, but now my first thought is 'terrorist' related.  The same with machetes, had we heard of this weapon being used here say 15 or 20 years ago ? I don't remember it happening and I associate this weapon with Africa and the jungle !

How the UK and we as a nation have changed.

First thing to my mind this time of year is a bypassed gas meter.

Yes I thought Gas as well. This seems to be happening to a lot of houses now.

Mups

It seems the latest news is Gas.    How frightening that must be.

Frightening isn't it.    I shouldn't think you'd stand a chance in an explosion like that.

Sometimes they take an entire house out from the middle of a terrace leaving just rubble down to the ground. Potent stuff.

I've messaged klondike. Think I overreacted.  :nooo:

I thought it might be you doing some sort of testing k, after the stuff you posted the other day.   The Russian location spooked me!

No idea why that was put in. Seems odd.

The stuff I put in was just a copy/paste of the error log showing that there are still id creation attempts ongoing. I expect the reason that one got through was because there had been no reports of malicious activity coming from that VPN. When I banned the id I also marked the entire IP block as banned.

I'm wondering if this was mains gas or bottled gas. Just curious. Similar explosions occurred a few years ago in Clacton in 2012 and 2014.

Bottled gas is quite expensive compared to mains gas and would usually only be used where there was no alternative. It could be I suppose as unless tampered with mains gas would be safer.

Actually, I feel lucky that we still have gas, having heard this government's intentions re. 'Nett Zero'.

If they get their way, I can see a future without the use of anything combustible: gas, petrol, diesel, even wood.  The really amusing thing is that they genuinely think that they are capable of actually preventing the use of anything that could pollute the atmosphere.

One bright idea, of course, was to stop all coal extraction and use and, instead, to import tons of wood from Canada to burn in our Drax power station, presumably on the basis that burning wood and using diesel fuel to transport it across the Atlantic would achieve their 'Nett Zero' targets.

In addition, they appear not to be aware of places like China which continue their practice of burning fossil fuels, and fail to understand that our minuscule changes in this country are enormously overwhelmed by what happens in many other countries and, consequently, is of absolutely no real value at all.

The tales about a possible ice age coming that were made in the 70s or 80s are resurfacing. Something to do with Milankovitch cycles. They should just ban them they are dangerous on the pavement and now this..
