Perseids

My daughter tells me that the Perseid meteor shower was good last night. Naturally enough I'd forgotten all about it and saw none on account of my eyelids and the roof being in the way. Apparently they will still be around tonight but if I say I'll take a look it guarantees cloud so I'll keep quiet on my intentions.

Just looked this up for more info, klondike.

It said it will be most active around 12th - 13th August,  so we should stand a good chance tonight.

Best viewed between midnight - 5.30  (which cuts me out ),  but also possible anytime after Sunset tonight.

I don't usually go to bed til 11:30ish so I'll take a look then for a while. Must check which direction they radiate from too. As I'm in a town and won't be going off to the country I'm not expecting great things. I recall seeing them or probably a different shower while driving in the countryside years back and pulled in to watch as they really were coming thick and fast and were quite spectacular. I think last time I checked the Perseids they were pretty sparse.

I didn't spend long out. Lots of planes and a couple of satellites. About 11:30.

Daughter went into countryside again. No shooting stars but did see an aurora again so that's two in a row from the midlands.

Nah,  nothing at all here, just an aeroplane.

I have always wanted to see the aurora, but never have.

If you look for the constellation Cassiopia - looks like a large 'W'  - they are around there.  I dragged a very disgruntled cat out to have a look about 1:30am today - but it was too overcast to see them.  Will try again tonight.

Thanks. I'm ok with Cassiopeia  and the plough the other side of the north star but that's about it.

I'm not sure just when the stream completely peters out but I suspect we may be past the best now.

I have an issue with the universe.
It's too big....what is the point of it all? It can never be explored because of its size. It's a waste of resources.

Judging by our national debt I think there is a chance we subsidised the construction.
