My granddaughter's cat used to meet her from work. One
day she heard a couple of yobs say 'get the cat' to their  scruffy
dog, the dog tried to obey, but her cat rearranged its nose and
the dog ran back to its stupid owner, yelping.

Should have set it on the yobs.

My parents adopted or were adopted by a huge gnarled and scarred old tom. He wouldn't come in. My mother just use to put his food on the flat roof of a lean-to shed they used as a greenhouse come junk store. She wore heavy duty motorcycle gloves when doing that for protection. More like a tiger than a cat.

Despite being scary, I'd imagine that even the most terrifying cat would not lash out if he saw some food approaching.  I'd have put it out anyway, though because we already have two cats I wouldn't want to attract a fierce cat.  We already have visits from a grey and white male, which one of ours has now defended herself from and who consequently doesn't seem so arrogant now, but also regular foxes in the dead of night.
