The argument goes that the Jews voted to kill Jesus.  I can see how some Christians might take umbrage with that.

It was the Romans and Jesus was himself a Jew.

I thought it was a Jewish crowd that chose between Jesus and Barrabas to be released, or not.

Anyway, we're not arguing.  You asked the question and I provided the standard explanations for why Ireland seems to be Anti-Semitic😊

That's the trouble with rent a mob - they get it  wrong most of the time .

"Rent a mob"??  Was that phrase used in an authorised Catholic version of the Bible?😬

muddy

Rent a mob is a tactic that has been used throughout history

Yes, but God in his extreme mercy infiltrated their minds and persuaded them to vote to release Barrabas.  This was for the simple reason that had Jebus not been crucified, the Christian church would never have been founded.

An alternative situation can be seen if you should watch the famous Monty Python film 'The Life of Brian' (which, I hasten to add, does not feature the Brian of whom we are all now familiar).

Ireland is now the most anti semitic country in Europe .
Norway and Spain are runners up .

What is the matter with them ?
Why is a country so full of hate against people who have done them no harm ?

Quote from: JBR on May 27, 2024, 08:22:34 PMI have known good friends who are (southern) Irish, but the impression I get of the Irish, or at least their leaders, is that they are as anti-British as ever.
Is it because they want N.I. as part of their territory?
Do they see us as fools because we are happy to let anyone in their country (especially the Pikey brigade) come here and get away with criminal activity that our police are too afraid to deal with?

It also annoys me that they are not members of NATO and don't bother to maintain their own armed forces, simply because they can hide behind us.

Goes back to Cromwell I think a deep and bitter hatred and distrust - an you blame them perhaps?

Not sure about anti-Semitic, though I do know that they're pretty fed up with the recent ingress of thousands of illegal immigrants who, I assume, are almost all muslim

That is probably correct, but it was a long time ago.  Perhaps they have very long memories.
On the other hand, I can't understand why they don't maintain any armed forces of their own.  Are they happy to hide behind us?!  I'm not sure whether or not they have joined NATO, but if they have none of their own armed forces can they be a member?
