Quote from: muddy on May 21, 2024, 11:11:51 PMNot surprisingly the President of Ireland has sent a message of condolence to the Iranian regime on the death of the their murdering President speaking on behalf of the people of Ireland .

He follows in the proud tradition of De Lavera and William Joyce .

I have known good friends who are (southern) Irish, but the impression I get of the Irish, or at least their leaders, is that they are as anti-British as ever.
Is it because they want N.I. as part of their territory?
Do they see us as fools because we are happy to let anyone in their country (especially the Pikey brigade) come here and get away with criminal activity that our police are too afraid to deal with?

It also annoys me that they are not members of NATO and don't bother to maintain their own armed forces, simply because they can hide behind us.

Irish police detected 50 people attempting to enter Ireland from the UK illegally last week.

The GardaĆ said they were refused leave to land and were returned to the UK across four days.

The force said 107 people had been detected, without the correct visas or identity papers, across 21 days of action since the start of October last year.

Four additional days of action took place in the week commencing May 20, when a further 50 people were detected without the correct paperwork.

It comes after Ireland claimed up to 90 per cent of asylum seekers arriving in Dublin have crossed the open border with Northern Ireland because they fear the Rwanda plan.

Interesting.

So Ireland (part of the EU) is allowed to return illegal immigrants coming from the UK.

Is the UK allowed to return illegal immigrants coming from Ireland or France (the EU)?

With a President that has just rewarded a terrorist group Hamas by recognising Palestine as a state what can you expect ?

muddy

Why is island so rabidly anti Israel ?

Historically Catholic.  But nowadays they possibly feel some kind of empathy for Israeli expansionism into Palestinian lands, given that Ireland itself was a UK colony until relatively recently.

Empathy?  But I thought that Ireland was pro-Hamas.
Perhaps Ireland has 'flexible morals'!

I think I worded it the wrong way round.  Ireland was colonised and empathises with Hamas/palestinians who they also see as being colonised by Israel/Jews.

But you went to school in England.

I can honestly say in over half my life as a Catholic I have never heard other Catholics express hatred for Jews .
I have lived in many countries and it has been the same there .

Ah, well I can see some sense in that, though it has been a long time since Ireland was under British rule.

Personally, I cannot understand why anyone could empathise with terrorists, though of course the IRA could have been seen as such.

Hear what you're saying Muddy.  I can well imagine however, that if one had been brought up in a predominantly single sect religious country, then one might not be quite so worried about voicing anti-different religious sect views.

Isn't this kinda how a lot of religions/cultures expand anyway?  You and I both know that Catholicism has had a chequered history in the way it dealt with non believers.

Quite.  For the "oppressed victims", those who we view as terrorists are seen as freedom fighters I guess.  Quid pro quo.  Ying and Yang.  What goes round comes round etc...

In my opinion I cannot see any logical reason for Catholics, or most other Christian people, having hatred for Jews.  After all, what have Jews done both over history and also today other than protect themselves?

On a more general level, religion has been a troublesome matter for centuries and has led to arguments and even wars.
The only people who are innocent of religious hatred are Atheists... like me!  We simply rise above it.  😁
