I didn't look at purple as I could see the others. I think that type are for those who like cryptic crosswords which are not something I've ever put my mind to.

A word like CANTAB stuck out especially as the puzzle setter is American. I checked if it had some other meaning and it hasn't so I promptly forgot it which in this instance was a mistake as I may have spotted the others but never looked.
