I don't think he would have accepted the 'brief' somehow.  Actually I had local firm do it, (Conveyancers, not solicitors). Over here I had a very efficient firm recc'd by the auctioneers, who were faultless and sent a bottle of bubbly the day I moved in - nice touch!
