Read this wild fact today and felt like sharing it...

Airplanes are said to taxi around the airport because in the early 1900's a couple of French blokes weee watching some planes move around a field slowly and said that it reminded them of taxis driving around Paris.  The term stuck.

Quote from: Mups on Yesterday at 11:21:31 AMBlimey Dex,  you always seem to be the one cooking.
I've been married twice,  but neither husband ever, ever cooked a meal for me!
I might ask you to marry me next leap year!

My OH does all the cooking. My son does most of it in his house. Well trained 😉  It also means they din't have to do other things, like cleaning bathrooms and ironing.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I clean the bathroom and do indeed iron.  For I am the second coming.... Praise be unto me.

Good morning all,  on this fine sunny day.
I finished potting my Amaryllis bulbs for Christmas yesterday,  so that's another little job done.

Today the phone-mending man has just phoned me to say he has got the new battery in for my mobile, and if I pop down and he will fix it while I wait.  Lately my phone hasn't been holding the charge as long as it should, hence trying a new battery.
I also need to put some air in my tyres while I'm out.   I never like doing that job.

My usual postman is back at last,  so now I should get my mail delivered properly again,  instead of half of it going to other people!
He said he had a month off, so went to volunteer at Hillside Animal Sanctuary, in Norfolk, helping to build  boundaries and new fencing.   I am so glad some people still care.

Talking of repairs, a small leak has suddenly developed on an isolation tap outlet leading to the WC cistern.

Sod's Law dictates that this will be more than just a nut that needs tweaking.  Ho hum, will get onto it after brunch.

Addendum-  indeed, it was a three wait valve that sheared on one port.  Never seen that happen before.  Anyway, part ordered from Amazon (naturally Screwfix nor Toolstation have it, and B&Q want me to remortgage the house to pay for one).  In the meantime, I'll get the loo up and running.

The valve is for a bidet attachment, so no rush.

One thing I did find mildly amusing while searching online was the wording of cistern fittings, specifically "bottom fitting". 😬😬😬

Minor bit of excitement this morning. Just as I was about to get a shower there was a loud knocking at the door. Two police. They were asking if I could give them access to the gated alley that runs behind my house. I took them through the house and out my back gate.

There is a gate opposite which was open and I could see that the glass panel on the back door was smashed. The alleyway was strewn with leaves and a glance and a sniff told me cannabis.

It seems some scallywags had turned the upper floor into a farm growing weed. The tall steel gate to the alley was still bolted so I unlocked that for the police. After I had showered and was driving off I saw the electric van pulling up to sort out the bypassed meter.

When I got back homea few hours later  the police had just finished so I locked up again. They had swept up most of the weed but the alley still stunk to high heaven.

One of the police told me it was a very lucrative business and they get quite a few houses used for this.

Very close and I never heard or noticed anything.

Lovely sunny day here too.
Growing weed is very lucrative, my friend's son was living in an ex council house with a concrete shed.  apparently ideal for  growing weed.  He was able to put down a deposit on a house with the proceeds.  His Mum still doesn't know and probably never will.

My dentist ( friend).. Asked me if I had smelled weed in our local Co-op.. She said it was strong smelling..
I wouldn't even know what it smells like..

Me neither!
I'm a child of the 60s, did sex and rocknroll but never drugs.
I'm told the smell wafting from the open window of the flat in the front of next door was weed.
My daughter said if I sat on our front wall I'd get high just breathing in the fumes!!!

Something lovely happened this afternoon.    Well I thought it was, anyway.

I went to collect my mobile back of the menders, then drove to the garage to put some air in my front tyres  -  but couldn't!
I didn't know if it was my fault,  or if the machine wasn't working,  so I called a young fella from the car wash  over to see if he could help.
Strangely,  he couldn't get it to work either,  so he said he would get his boss to have a look.
His boss came,  and fiddled about for a while,  but he couldn't get any air to come from the machine and my tyre pressure was dropping down and down with them keep pressing on the tyre valve.
I was worried, because if the machine was faulty,  how was I going to drive home now,  with one tyre nearly flat to the rim.

In the end,  he looked closely at the machine and saw it said to pay £2 first.   I have never, ever had to pay for air before.
So I fiddled about looking for my purse,  but that lovely chap said he would pay for it for me!
I said No, and that I would do it,  but he insisted and paid with his phone.

Immediately the machine worked,  so that was obviously what was wrong.
He went on to do all the tyres for me,  then wished me a good day, and went back to his work.
Bless his heart.   Wasn't that kind.

I know it will sound really daft,  but that simple kindness just caught me unprepared,  and to my embarrassment I could feel I was about to bawl!
I had noticed he had a bottle of fizzy orange in his hand,  so went in the garage's shop, and bought him another bottle of orange,  and a little chocolate reindeer to munch on, and gave it to him.

Little things like that don't happen to me every day,  what a nice fella, ey.
