I've still got loads of green tomatoes,  so hope it stays warm a bit longer yet.

I read that putting your green toms in a bowl with a banana helps, I have never tried it but I might just give it a try

Bananas are reckoned to release something that does cause stuff to ripen quicker. No idea if works for tomatoes.

They emit ethylene.  
Apparently putting a banana and tomatoes (or other fruit) in a paper bag or shoebox will help more efficiently.  A fruit bowl would allow too much airflow to dissipate the gases.

Yes,  so they say.    
They say it is also a good thing to suspend a banana above the tomato plants  in your greenhouse/grow-house.   The bananas naturally give off ethylene gas, which helps ripen the fruit.
