She certainly is CHF,  and she gets away with all sorts because of it.
Lunchtime today I was having some soup.  I had cut some long bread 'fingers'  to dip in it.
I was also reading the paper at the same time,  but out the corner of my eye I saw something move. . .

Yep.  It was my little thief at it again.   She had leaned over and nicked one of my pieces of bread.   She didn't even have the good grace to look ashamed!

Good morning all.
Sunny but chilly here, with rain forecast.

The dreaded pot-hole menders are outside my house rigging up their temporary traffic lights and road signs.    I've got my Ocado order coming in another hour, so I hope they've cleared off by then.   Also finally got the plumber coming to fix my dripping tap,  so he'll need to park outside too.

. .   Oooer,  they've cleared off again.   How odd.  Perhaps got the wrong place!

Get ready with your phone or camera. You need to take a picture and get it framed. In the future a picture of UK roads being repaired in 2026 will be worth a fortune. Antiques Roadshow may pay to get it on the air.

They work in teams. Next door is being convereted into flats and needed an additional electric meter.

A flatbed truck and men turned up and dumped off barriers and signs then cleared off

Another team turned up with pneumatic drills and a digger. They dug a big hole and dumped all the stuff they dug out on the road. They cleared off.

Another team arrived with a big skip and pickup arm and transfered the pile of muck from the road into the skip and cleared off.

A team of blokes turned up and connected up a new cable to the street main and ran it to the house then cleared off.

The skip and digger lot returned with stuff to fill the hole and flatten it down and cleared off.

Finally another lot turned up with tarmac and pneumatic cutters and flatteners and all the usual tarmac laying stuff. Covered the hole and cut it all in to match the existing multipart jigsaw which passes for a pavement here. Then they cleared off.

Finally the van that delivered the barriers and road signs came and took them away.

Nobody offered to clean all the dust and crap this caused off my car. They didn't even ask if I wanted white chips in the tarmac.

This bridged a weeked when nothing got done.

If anybody wants something to watch while Eurovision or the football is on just ask and I'll pull the CCTV and put it together. Expect a lot of inaction with blokes in orange jump suits and hard hats leaning on brooms, pneumatic drills etc. or staring into a big hole in the pavement. Very handy for making tea, comfort breaks or a bit of shuteye as it will be several hours long.

Blimey Klon, you don't need a TV, you have entertainment on tap.

It's actually probably quite efficient. There must have been a dozen blokes altogether. In the past they'd all have turned up and at any given time there would be two working and ten scratching their ..  well ten scratching anyway. Plus four or five wagons blocking the road.

Mups

They never came back and mended the road,  and  the Plumber never turned up either!

What pee's me off even more is,  why don't these men ever let you know if they're not coming!

Scrumpy

Because they are men!!!

How are you now? Have you recovered from your fall?

Alex

I gave my bedroom a spring clean this morning, a ''move the furniture & turn the mattress''  job too.   Only thing I didn't do was mirror wardrobes, they're a bit old fashioned now I suppose and a b***** to clean.  A job for tomorrow.
