Less weight - allows them to meet the ever more stringent emission standards. Those standards are making modern diesels too expensive to maintain - DPF blockages or EGR valve clogging and the engine management puts the thing in limp mode and there is a big bill. Or a cheaper one - it's possible to bypass either or both and fiddle the engine management to to remap the system to run just fine. In theory an MOT should spot this but both are usually behind shielding which the MOT doesn't insist be moved. Result those cars emit more than if the standards hadn't been made more stringent. You can bet most diesel taxis will be "fixed" as they don't do the high speeds needed to burn off the soot that blocks those emission reducing devices.

That was the reason I got rid of my Yeti. She was a diesel and the filter was always choking up and the light coming on in the dash, it was a real nuisance. I used to have to go over to the A9 and roar down it in 3rd gear till the soot burnt off. I hated doing it and I always thought it didn't do the car any good.
If it had been petrol I'd still have it as I loved the car, but the diesel filter ruined everything.

I did hear mention of a conspiracy theory. It harks back to when they were talking about seeding the atmosphere to increase cloud cover and reduce global warming. FWIW I think that's BS. Main reason I think it's BS is we have more cloud cover and when have any of their nutty ideas every produced a result?

I took the dogs out, but it so muddy up the fields,  I won't be going there again until the weather improves.   Washed 8 little feet when we got back home  - much to their disgust. 

Then I called in the gym, just for some information I wanted,  then into town for the bank, Iceland, and Co-op,  and finally back home for a nice cuppa.
