Do the gritters come round your way?  I haven't seen one this year around here.
Hope no one was too badly injured,  and glad you are alright.

I remember when they used to have big grit bins along the side of roads for us to use,  but I haven't even seen one of those for years.
There is a grit bin just round the corner! I'm awake at silly o'clock, no ice so far when I looked out.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

We no longer have streetside grit bins. They are usually good with gritting the main roads but side roads and pavements only get whatever gets past parked cars.

I've not seen any gritters but since the cold spell I haven't been out much. I can't be bothered to use a car for short journeys and preparing one in this weather is certainly too much of a faff. I'd normally still go out for a walk but I pulled a tendon somehow and it is taking a long time to get properly better. Fine round the house but any distance outside and it is uncomfortable.

Ohhh Blimey what a day, everything's solid and can hardly see across the yard, the Haar coming in off the ocean is so thick. Was standing at the back door and it was silence everywhere, no traffic noises from the main road, the sheep are quiet and I think they're in the barn, no stomping Clydes looking for treats they're in the stable, it's uncanny without the usual noises.
Hope it's better where you all are, have a good day.

This morning's carer tells me it was -4°C when she started work at 6am.
(Northumberland.) There's a yellow gritter bin situated on this small estate
of 36 houses and flats. It has a stream running through it about 2 metres from
my door, with a little humped back footbridge, which can be lethal if
not gritted.

I count my blessings.

Morning all
It's ok here so far,  but a horrible dark grey sky, and weather warnings.
It is this afternoon its all forecast to kick-off, carrying on through the night till Friday morning.

My Ocado order has just come,  so I won't need to go out, so that's good at least.
Take care everyone if you cop it bad in your area.

Quote from: klondike on January 07, 2026, 11:32:25 PMIf it's black and white you mostly print they will be fine. If its colour you may notice a difference but all inkjet printed photos fade faster than store printed ones. If you have a lot to print the store ones can work out cheaper too as photopaper can  be expensive.

I got fed up with cartridge costs and switched to an ecotank type which have tanks for each colour.  They hold a lot more ink than the cartridges and checking Amazon it looks like they are cheaper now than when I bought some.

Another approach is paying monthly for a set number of pages. I think that's HP as it wouldn't suit me i never investigated.
Thanks Klondike.

Don't they make life complicated nowadays.

Epson at one time set their print driver to not work with non genuine cartridges.  That caused grumbles. I personally think they then changed it to give worse quality colour prints. I have an Epson eco tank printer now and it seems to be very economical. I don't do a lot of printing myself. Most of it gets done by children and grandchildren who declare they don't do enough printing to justify getting a printer

I made the mistake of buying an HP `Envy` printer which spies on you. It connects to WiFi and orders ink cartridges when existing cartrides are deemed to be empty. It also senses non-genuine cartridges. There's also a lack of included printer software which makes it difficult to fit more than one photo per page.
Needless to say, I disabled the WiFi connection and buy standard cartridges now.

I ordered a proper Canon one in the end.   Other options are too complicated for me, but thanks anyway.
It was £16.25 with postage,  and will be here tomorrow.

We had a bit of snow tea time which began to settle,  but its turned back to rain since.
I just heard the Scilly Isles are having 98 mph winds!   That must be terrifying.
I have never heard of winds that bad before.

I'm fed up. Recovered so well from my bionic knee, I've been walking every day, no sticks for ages!  The physio was well pleased on Tuesday, went to the pool for a class on Wednesday, then came down with a stinking cold yesterday.

Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Poor you, Granny,  hope you feel on the mend again soon.

We didn't cop the storms too bad where I am.  Looking at the news from other places this morning, we were very lucky here.   It's just dull and raining at the mo.
Those atrocious gales down Cornwall way must have been frightening though.

It's my exercise class down at the gym this afternoon,  then I will nip to Asda on the way home to get some more dog chews.  And that's as exciting as it should get today.
