Annoying laptop wouldn't start up this morning. I'm guessing it didn't shut down when I closed the lid and completely flattened the battery. Having to use the desktop which is busy nagging for everything to be updated. Hopefully laptop will be charged up and start by now.

Ah well,  at least you made it here in the end, Klondy.

It's a mixture of sunny spells and cloud here today, but nice and warm at least.
I have done some washing and its pegged out and blowing nicely.
I really want to press on with my garden today.

Have I bored you enough yet,  with my weather report, laundry and gardening day?

Laptop still sulking. I'm guessing that the battery has run down past the point where the circuitry recognises that there is something to charge. Moved desktop which is am all-in-one downstairs but iyt is huge and my seat is a bit low for it. Will have to decide whether to try a new battery on spec as it could be had it. Might get one from Amazon as returns are easy if it doesn't work.

Odd mentioning Amazon, I bought a small replacement microwave from them ..had it about 3 weeks ..it's crap..it only beats certain parts of food so I contacted customer services on line clicked the return goods button...no questions asked about why I was returning, just told bung it in a box take it to the post office let them scan the return label ...sorted, then they refund. Wicked or what?

klondike

Like I said - Amazon returns are good. So long as you are in the return period at least. After that well...

Perhaps leave it on charge for longer?
I must admit I have never had a laptop where shutting the lid shuts it down, or at least I haven't been aware of it.  Fortunately, I automatically press the 'off' button and, through habit, wait to see that the screen and the lights have shut down.  Hope you get it fixed.

Klondike,  my previous old laptop stopped charging once,  but it turned out it was the charger knackered,  not the laptop.
Worth thinking about perhaps?

klondike

I've checked the charger and it is producing the correct output voltage.
I had this problem before with a Chromebook which I'd promised my daughter as I never use it. When I came to set it up ready for her it wouldn't power up. A new battery fixed it. If you let a lithium battery deplete then beyond some point it won't accept a charge again

There are umpteen Youtube videos on computers of all types (phones tablets laptops chromebooks etc) not powering up or accepting charge and I did go through several again for this specific laptop and none of the suggestions worked.

Any windows laptop will do it. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/shut-down-sleep-or-hibernate-your-pc-2941d165-7d0a-a5e8-c5ad-8c972e8e6eff

Thanks for the advice.  I shall ensure I always turn it off rather than forgetting and just shutting the lid.

I think you must be right, Scrumpy.   It's been like this all week.

I did wonder a few days ago whether Klondike's taken them all on a coach trip to the seaside and we didn't get an invite.

I am over here  in the corner by the piano....

I didn't get an invitation either.
Perhaps we, the uninvited, should get together and go to the seaside.  Who's for Blackpool?

BLACKPOOL..!!! Ok.. for me..!!  What time is the coach pick-up..?
Can I bring Doris and Ethel please..? They haven't been out for twenty years..
and if Albert finds his teeth can he also tag along..?
I haven't mentioned it to Edith because last time we took her out she was going to flash her polka dot knickers in front of the queue at the fish and chip bar.. but she had forgotten to put them on..
One man was taken to hospital with shock and Connie had to give another the kiss of life.. They were still at it when the coach turned up to take us home..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Coach?  I had in mind a walking holiday.
In my case, that would be about 56 miles (one way).
Of course anyone can come, but your walk might be a little shorter... or possibly longer.
Naturally, we don't all have to walk together as we will probably be coming from different locations.
If and when we all arrive, I shall buy everyone a drink upon arrival.
