Chains will be available too. In the old days I'd probably have looked in a Wilko now mow likely Toolstation or online - ebay or Amazon probably.

If it's the old style cahin with links they can be fixed with a pair of pliers. The linked ball type can't. A sink plug doesn't 100% need a chain anyway.

If you have a Samsung phone there is a converter for most measurements in the standard calculator. If not but do have a smartphone there will be an app. The easiest length converter is a steel tape measure which will have both. I often have to look at one to visualise a size or the conversion isn't hard to do mentally.

Every time I purchase anything that needs to be measured I have to check..
I have a glass cutting board on worktop.. It's called Weights and Measures...
It converts.. Liquid.. Weights... Length and Oven temp... It is brilliant..

You and me both, Scrumpy.  I hate it, too.

I have always struggled with it and when someone says something is  so-many cms or worse still,  mms,  it means nothing to me.

If I know an article is 3"  or  33"    I can visualise it easily.

I always keep an old tape measure in my bag to measure anything, especially clothes sizes as the labels are rarely to be trusted.

Alexa or Google will put you right if you want a quick answer..

I agree about carrying a tape measure..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I miss Wilko's so much.  I was always in our local one.  I could get so many things I wanted in there,  I really miss it.

The chain I broke is joined together by miniature stick-like things with a tiny ball on the end.
Can you visualise what I'm on about?

I tried to get the ball back in the hole, but it wouldn't go,  so I got my Dad's old tool that makes holes, and tried to open the gap up a bit.  I managed that,  poled the little ball back in the hole,  but then couldn't close the flippin' hole again!    Hence the superglue!

Oh well . .  I'd best go and make a start on something useful I suppose. .

Yes I know exactly the type you mean and they can be repaired that way but it is tricky and you'd need some pin nose pliers to close the ball back up.

There's probably a YouTube clip on how to do it.

All the Christmas lights are supposed to be turned on this Saturday here.
Good job they weren't up when we had Storm Bert!

I wouldn't be surprised if one day in the future,  all our Christmas festivities will be found offensive by the woke brigade, too.

After dropping the metal trianglular bit  (that holds the chain to the sink) down the flippin' plug hole, and having to take the U-bend off to retrieve it - I've mended it.   Hurrah.
Don't think I'd get a job as a plumber somehow.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Top tip.  Whenever doing something that involves a hole, always stuff it with cloth or tissue.
