I would have sworn it was here when we discussed the comics we had as chidren but I'm unable to find the thread so it must have been in the other place. Anyway I came across a news story that makes me wish I'd saved mine...

Single page of Spider-Man comic sells for over $3.3m
A single comic book page from a 1984 issue of Spider-Man - which debuted the now-iconic black costume - has been sold at auction for $3.36m (£2.5m).
The work was drawn by Mike Zeck and featured on page 25 of Marvel Comics' Secret Wars no 8.
The artwork was sold at auction in Dallas, Texas, for more than ten times its original opening bid.
Last year, a 1962 Spider-Man comic sold at auction for $3.6m, beating Superman as the most expensive comic ever sold.

I imagine this stuff just gets bought as an investment. How can anybody get that much enjoyment over owning something like that?

zoony

It's only like paying a million and a half for a Monet.. As you say, it's an investment which will continue to be valuable to specialist collectors.. I'd guess the enjoyment comes purely from owning it.

When I look at that sort of thing, it reminds me of the tale of the emperor's clothes - except nobody seems to realise

At least, like a painting, there's some substance.. If you can find any original still-frame drawings from some of the early Disney movies they're worth 10s of thousands..

TREBOR

I remember the other thread and making the point that early comics can sell for big bucks. As do the original story boards from many classic films.

My favorite comic was always Eagle and Dan Dare.

Michael Rolls

I had the very first issue of Eagle - would that I still had it!

My dad bought the Magnet, he'd loved it from his own childhood. I also used to enjoy it, and have several of the Magnet Books of the Greyfriars School and Bunter stories, I read them every now and again.

Scrumpy

As an usherette I remember seeing many posters laying around when the film was over..
Some would be worth a few bob..

an uncle gave Vernon and me a tea chest full of copies of teh Gem and the Magnet - this would be around 1948/9. We read them, and when each one had been read by both of us, it was thrown away
