Not sure if this means out for a couple of hours or some short unspecified period during the window. I do know that the PHP7.1  release we are on will no longer be getting maintenance and might upgrade to the PHP 8 version at some time but it is quite a bit of work for little benefit as we are unlikely to be the target of hackers.

The notices...

Dear Amazon Lightsail Customer,

One or more of your Amazon Lightsail instances is scheduled for maintenance in a 2 hour window starting on Mon, 6 Feb 2023 08:00:00 GMT.
Maintenance activity will result in the following Lightsail instance(s) in the eu-west-2 region to be unavailable and then rebooted:

LAMP_PHP_7-1

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the AWS Support Team on the community forums and via AWS Premium Support at: http://aws.amazon.com/support

Hello,

The "LAMP (PHP 7)" blueprint has reached end of life and end of standard support by PHP [1]; consequently, it will be removed from Lightsail on February 1, 2023. You will not be able to create new instances with this blueprint in Lightsail on or after February 1, 2023. This blueprint will also be removed from the response of the Lightsail "get-blueprints" command in the AWS CLI and corresponding API.

You can continue using existing instances that were created with this blueprint. You can also create new instances from instance snapshots created with this blueprint. But we strongly recommend you migrate the instances running "LAMP (PHP 7)" to a newer version.

For more information about the "LAMP (PHP 7)" blueprint, view the LAMP AWS marketplace link [2]. If you have questions or concerns, please contact AWS support [3].

More joy...

Dear Amazon Lightsail customer,

We have detected a degradation of the underlying hardware hosting your instance: LAMP_PHP_7-1 (eu-west-2) in your AWS Account with ID: nnnn. Due to this degradation, we will have to perform necessary maintenance to the underlying hardware. Your instance may already be unreachable.
Maintenance activity will result in your Lightsail instance stopping after Mon, 20 Feb 2023 00:00:00 GMT. After your instance is stopped, you can restart it at any time.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the AWS Support Team on the community forums or via AWS Premium Support at: http://aws.amazon.com/support

Sincerely,
Amazon Lightsail Team

Don't forget that the backup forum is still there - https://letschat.digitalham.co.uk/

It is some time since I updated the database on that one and if your password has changed here it won't have there so it is worth checking  that you can still log in. I don't think that the lost password email works on that one.

By coincidence our Medion Smart Home is undergoing maintenance for several hours on the 6th Feb, so Alexa will not be turning some of the lights on or off.

It seems they considerably overran their maintenance window. I tried a manual reboot at 10:15 but that made no difference. I was about to give up on them and revert to using my Pi at home (where  the backup server runs) but tried a reboot again and either that has brought it back to life or coincided with them completing the mainenence.

The database server was reported as running but the webserver couldn't connect to it for some reason.

There is likely to be more joy on 20th. At least they give notice I suppose.

From my Pi performance monitor...

Not sure what happened to this...

Maintenance activity will result in your Lightsail instance stopping after Mon, 20 Feb 2023 00:00:00 GMT. After your instance is stopped, you can restart it at any time.

as it has just kept running. It's possible that they did the work during the February 6 maintenance which overran or maybe they are late starting and it will go down sometime today. I'll try to keep an eye on it.

That's easier said than done  :yay:

No it's easy enough if needed. There are web pages where you control your account. You can set up and stop/start instances which is just their name for virtual servers of all sorts. The one this runs on is just what is called a LAMP server which is the most common type of webserver used.

L is Linux which is the operating system
A is Apache the webserver program
M is MySQL the database software
P is PHP the scripting language software which runs the website code the forum is written in.

It's the same set of software I ran on the Raspberry Pi this site started out on.

Alex

I was joking Klondy as I don't have the foggiest what you were talking about

klondike

It's what they were talking about. It said they'd turn it off and I'd have to turn it on again. Except it seems they didn't.
