Has Chris Kaba the criminal shot dead in London by police, become UK's George Floyd  ?  It seems to be heading that way.

I've had a quick look as I had no clue what this was about. Another shooting of an unarmed bloke. I guess we'll eventually get charges if they are considered necessary meanwhile the shooter is suspended and the police union are moaning about that. I would have thought it would be standard practice.

I'm guessing the police surrounded the car when they eventually stopped it and told the driver to throw the weapon out. When he didn't, they shot him. Police are getting very aggressive recently, when they are not harassing and arresting old ladies for having a picnic they are persecuting minor politicians. This has to stop.

I know this isn't the US and there will be few roadside stops by armed police but I'd expect them to have proper training in how to get it done without the need to shoot. That said it has to be a split second decision because getting it wrong could easily see you filling the body bag. I'm open minded on this as I don't know the circumstances.

The problem being that he didn't have a weapon to thow out so he'd have had to ask the police if he could borrow one of their's to throw out.

It's difficult to comply with a request to do something that doesn't exist.

I'll be pleasantly suprised if any of the officers involved are prosecuted or even disciplined as, unfortunately, all they have to do is say they thought he had a gun.

Just like they thought Harry Stanley was carrying a gun when it was actually an antique table leg he'd had restored.

Well we all know what thought did.

I thought with this man's past record of firearms possession, plus the car had been involved in another firearms incident a day earlier, plus not stopping when instructed by the police...... the officer had a split decision to make.    Why Kaba wasn't shot in the legs I don't know.

My point is though, his family has called for national protest marches to be held.  The police officer has been suspended and an investigation is underway, similarities to George Floyd.

Nevertheless it could have been mistaken identity, which the suspect's behaviour did nothing to assuage. But you see there may be something more to it, people may evade the police for a number of reasons which are not capital offences or even endangering policemen, Jean Charles De Menezes comes to mind. A policeman shooting to kill must be sure, not just frightened.

The policeman obviously thought he had a gun or he wouldn't have shot him. Shooting somebody in the legs who has a gun isn't the best way to ensure yourself a long and happy life. If you are going to shoot somebody you believe to be armed and dangerous you don't fanny about. Centre of mass every time. At least two shots too.

Exactly Scrumpy, who would want to be a police officer in UK today  ?

Diasi

The question I ask is who would I want to be police officer & my answer is not a gun-happy shoot first & check afterwards moron.

An article aout Police firearms officers hitting back at the suspension. I had assumed it was standard practice but apparently it isn't.

https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2022/09/16/uk-cops-threaten-hand-in-guns-after-officer-who-shot-black-man-suspended/

The article also gives some (unverified) info on the incident. Some extracts...

Eyewitnesses have alleged that, after he was blocked in by two marked police cars, Mr Kaba attempted to ram through his captors. Whether or not this proves to be accurate, what is not in dispute is that the chase ended with the 24-year-old black male being killed by a police gunshot.

An investigation into Kaba's death by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) was subsequently announced and the officer involved placed on restricted duties — all standard procedure after a fatal police shooting.

However, the officer has been suspended now that Kaba's family have accused the police of racism and Black Lives Matter UK have gotten involved in a public pressure campaign — leaving rank and file officers furious and demoralised.

"There is real anger in the ranks about this. Firearms officers do not get any extra money to carry out their role. They are all volunteers and they are increasingly feeling 'what is the point of doing this if our bosses do not have our backs'," a source within the Met's armed command told The Telegraph.
