Nice fish Klondy.  I assume you jet washed your hair after you mopped the boat down?

Joking apart, that was one hell of a fish.  I find it amazing that such large fish inhabit our waterways nowadays, given the increase in sewage.

Just shy of 30lb. It was caught in a marina on the Nene. Such fish and bigger still are not uncommon in fishery lakes stocked with them and regularly fed pellets. The Nene has been in flood quite a lot just before the season opened that day and I suspect it could have come from a fishery lake then taken refuge in the marina. We took quite a few decent bream too. I wasn't expecting carp and was lucky to land it - just legering worm from a float road with 6lb line and it took quite a while.

Last year apart from pike which can run to 20lb there most fish were pretty modest river fare. Absolutely teaming with small roach and very few dead fish spotted so despite the occasional suspicious brown tinge to the water it must be failry healthy. First carp of any size in the few years I've been fishing there from my son's boat.

Nothing much planned for today,  just more gardening and the usual chores -   oh,  and I am going  Vlad-hunting too,  see if I can find our old friend who seems to have gone AWOL. :hmm:

She won't mind if you don't make today Mike, I'm sure she's with you at home.

sadly, the legs deteriorated, but I drove to the cemetery car park to be as near as possible

I had a bit of an unusual day yesterday.

A friend phoned me and said she had seen an advert in the local library for a 'Tea & Cakes' afternoon at a house in the village.
Only thing was,  it was my dear old Mum's house for 44 years before she died 10 years ago.

My friend said she was going, and did I want a ticket?  I didn't know what to do.  It doesn't always pay to go back somewhere, does it.   I was worried it would upset me.

Anyway,  in the end I went,  and it wasn't as painful as I feared.   I admit once or twice I got choked up by memories,  but they have altered the house so much which made it easier.  If it had still looked identical I would have half expected to see Mum there.

I spoke to the owners, and they offered to take me on a tour round.
It is a big old stone house,  quite a few hundred years old now.
It used to be the old infants school for the village children about a hundred years ago.  It still has the old bell tower on the roof!

The couple who now own it are Missionarys, and seemed friendly and pleasant people.

I am glad I went,  although there were many mixed emotions too.

Morning all,    a nice sunny morning with a gentle breeze,  perfect washing day.

I have spent all the first part of this morning on the phone, chasing people who promise to do things and don't!
Next I must do my grocery order before it's too late.

After that I want to brush the dogs and make them look less like rag-bags,  so I can take some photos of them for a doggy calender competition.  Should be fun - if they co-operate!

If you were doing a ' rougher than a dogs arse' competition than I would send a pic, I look like a survivor from a nuclear blast today, I don like Mondays.
