Beings I am on a water metre make me take a serious decision if to water my flowers or not. Over watering can do more damage so up to now sticking my finger in the ground to see if it feels damp or  not. If I had half a brain I could by now have a soil tester. Put that right one should be arriving tomorrow which will save me money and keep my plants happy.

I've just watered my plants and baskets, they were bone dry after today's heat.  You may lose your flowers if you penny pinch !!!

Strange how it never kills the weeds....

Alex they may seems bone dry but without testing you just do not know. Hanging baskets I have been testing with my finger. To much water does more harm than good. My lawn a bright green so I know there's plenty of moisture in the soil. Yesterday like today very hot but this morning my decking was wet which proves there is plenty of moisture in the air.

Weeds are unwanted plants which are quite happy with nature looking after them, and they find water with out us drowning them. Watering just makes plants lazy and roots stay shallow.

I purchased one of those things which test moisture content. I put it to the test this evening on a small hanging basket. I watered over 24 hours ago. Its been exposed  to the hot sun all-day so expecting it to be bone dry. To my surprise the reading was very wet. Soil tester cost me under £10 which will tell when plants need watering and not drowning them with kindness.
