Mr M likes to correct my words which I frequently mispronounce .
New one today outage .
I have been calling it outrage for years
Ie a wifi outrage
My children also laugh at my pronunciation of words like book ( buuk) ( Lancashire origin )

Another word I mispronounce is detritus
I sometimes say de try tis or de tray tis
I use the short A sound a lot as is done in Spanish .
I think it's some sort of word blindness .
Or maybe I am just losing the power of speech .🙁

Does anyone else get words wrong ?

Michael Rolls

Not usually -incidentally de try tus- is how I pronounce it - but I frequently get word blind when I simply cannot come up with the word I want

Age I'm afraid. So do I.

My BIL used to mispronounce some words which I found more amusing than irritating. Only one I recall right now was GRAFITEE  which he often moaned about. Rather than gra fee ti it came out more as splelt gra fit tee.

I got a lot of song lyrics incorrect. I often didn't discover the correct version til years later.

I wondered why Neil Diamond wanted to be The Reverend Blue Jeans. Perhaps I was a bit mutton even then

I do pronounce words wrongly... many times..
Sam would always correct me when wrong.. Sometimes I just wanted to sellotape his mouth up...

My friend is brilliant at it.. But she speaks the words with such confidence that they sound correct..
Which makes it all the more amusing...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I'd never try to correct anybody. Partly because I'd never be 100% sure I was right

I love  Neil diamond,  and always have done.
I have even chosen one of his songs to play at my funeral!

My GP  has tried to 'Expedite'   my ENT hospital appointment,    but I think I always get that word wrong and pronounce it  'Expeediate.'
I never seem able to get that one right.

Ah, spelling.  One of my inane interests.
I often misspell the word 'bolleaux' (which is French, of course) which should be pronounced phonetically.
Numquam credere Gallicum

Age I'm afraid, I doubt my spelling sometimes with particular  words.  Peter Kay is funny with his song 'mis hears'

Ooh Yes,  I agree, Scrumps.
Pity we don't see  much of him these days.

He's on tour at the moment Mups, he's playing every big city in the UK.  Coming to Liverpool 22 November, I'd love to go and see him live.  He's brilliant !

Peter Kay is so funny, the words he puts to songs are brilliant.

My bugbear at the moment is the word prostate. OH attends a specialist hospital for regular checkups.  People keep saying and writing 'prostRate' . One day I will ask why they think he's flat out on the floor?

Yes, I know I'm pedantic! But it really grates.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Well, while you are being prostrate looking at the grates, you might as well check for blockages in the u-bends.
