Dame Jilly Cooper has died, following a fall, aged 88. Whist I have never read any of her books, years ago she wrote an entertaining newspaper column - I believe in the Sunday Telegraph - which I loved. One phrase will always stick  in my memory
'you know that you are  a slut when you find yourself going through the laundry basket,  looking for the least dirty bra and knickers!
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

" 'And may her hereafter be filled with impossibly handsome men and devoted dogs.' "  Camilla said this about her old friend - allegedly !  So sad when it's unexpected.  RIP

News said she died after a fall, that's scary. I see she was walking with a stick so I guess she was wobbly on her feet, poor lady.

I didn't realise she was that old. Mind you I don't really realise how old I am. Well except when I first get up.

Falls are bad news when you get older. Especially so for women where osteoporosis could be present. Not sure if men get that.

Anyway RIP to someone whose name I haven't come across for quite a while until now. Sadly the case for many.

A doc on TV was asked about keeping healthy in old age.  He said 'don't fall'.  A friend recently tripped and broke her wrist quite badly.  She hasn't been able to drive, and she is really missing her exercise classes.   Living alone, she's found even simple things difficult one handed.

I've never read Gilly Cooper, but I'd obviously heard of her, quite a character.  RIP.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Well they're giving good advice, you all know what happened to me after my last fall.  If I can give any advice to you ladies then it's this....Get your GP to arrange a Bone Scan for you, you simply don't know if you have osteoporosis. If you find you do have it then you'll be put on a pill you take once a week.
Better safe than sorry.

I had a fall last night, my first ever - well sober that is    I was very lucky as I still had my coat on and this helped cushion me I think.  I tripped over a cable and went flying, the worst part is lying there wondering what to do and how you'll get up !

I'm inventing an inflatable chair that the old, infirm, alcoholic, and stupid can wear at all times, just in case.  Pull a cord and it'd automatically inflate.  I might even incorporate a whistle and a torch to make it aeroplane compliant.

It'd have the additional security feature that if you fell into a canal or river, or if there's a sudden flood or heavy downpour, you wouldn't drown as it could act as a boat.
