GrannyMac mentioned washing lines on another thread..
My mate swears by hers.. I don't have one.. just a rotary line..
My nearby neighbours don't have washing lines and my next door neighbours doesn't have anything to hang their washing on..

I remember Mondays when the sheets and pillow cases would be blowing in the breeze.. and they were so white..
I wish my sheets were as white as those of my mum..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Michael Rolls

I use the tumble drier - my back won't let me reach up to hang up washing
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

We have one of those circular things on a pole in the garden.  You know, the ones which you push up and it fans out.
If it's raining, it has to be fold-out stands in front of a radiator.

I much prefer to dry my washing outside on the line,  weather permitting.
Failing that,  it has to be indoors.
I haven't got a tumble dryer,  or the space to put it even if I could afford one.

Alex

I use the line outside and an indoor fold up clothes maid when it rains.

Outside on the washing ropes as much as possible. In the winter I have a big clothes horse that I use in the Day Room, if I shut the door it warms up nicely and the washing dries quite quickly.

Washing ROPES?

You must have some heavy items to dry.  Super-sized knickers?

Just the standard washing ropes and 3 big poles sunk into the lawn. Heaviest thing that goes on them are horse blankets.

The first person I heard call an airer a maid was my daughter in law, who is also from Cheshire! It must be a localism?

I have a washer drier, a small rotary airer, and a now defunct washing line! I use a clothes horse/maid/airer in front of a radiator if I have to dry stuff indoors,
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I've never heard that expression, a clothes maid,  before?  :hmm:
