The above posts about like breeding with like to keep their cultures segregated and not part of an idealised multicultural society reminds me of the trend a few years back for chefs to cook "deconstructed" meals.

In our schoolbooks America is/was called a "salad bowl" and if I understood it correctly it meant that there are lots of ingredients, but they don't really mix. When I was in the USA, Chinatown was where mainly Chinese lived, in California there's a special telephone number for - for instance English speaking and Spanish speaking craftsmen, in New York there are quarters where mainly coloured (black) people, Italians, Irish etc. live and I was told that in Pennsylvania the majority of the inhabitants are of German origin. 
Formerly in our town the Turks lived near the station, but now they buy houses every0where. There aren't many Africans or Asians here and as far as I can judge so far we don't have big problems with migrants or Ukrainians. but I don't have a crystall ball to look into the future. As many shops and factories are closing the rate of jobless people will certainly increase.
