New Parking fines

I have just read that South Lanarkshire council are introducing new parking rules,  starting on 6th January '25.

Apparently anyone parking on pavements from then are likely to get a £100 fine.
I bet it won't be long before other councils follow suit.

In a way I am glad though,  because some people, especially with big vans,  park about three quarters of their vehicle across a pavement,  and it surely must be a problem for people with mobility scooters, or guide dogs etc. especially if it was only a narrow pavement to start with.

This actually happened to me yesterday,  not that I have a scooter or guide dog,  but when I was going to the optician's,  a huge van was so far over the pavement that I actually folded his wing mirror in to get by, between him and a long stone wall.
I can well imagine others wouldn't have been able to pass at all.

On the other hand,  I can imagine this unblocking of pavements helpful,  but it may just block the roads more instead,  especially little side streets.
What do you think?

It'll be interesting to see how it works out.  If we had no pavement parking in Manchester, there'd be a fair few roads which physically wouldn't be wide enough to get a car down.

It's the law in most town's in Scotland. Perth was really bad for it BUT, the streets are too narrow for all the cars that need to park there these days.

Yes,  it's a difficult one this,  isn't it.
I think really, it all depends on the width of the road - and width of the pavements too.

If the road isn't wide enough to support two way traffic and two pavements then maybe one way traffic or no traffic is necessary. Possibly a single pavement so long as there are no doors on the side where there is no pavement.

Lots of terrace housing round here, with narrow streets.  Partly on the pavement is the norm in many of them.   As long as there is room for a wheelchair or buggy it's accepted here.     That may change of course.

I've damaged a few wing mirrors on pavement-parked cars.

Accidentally of course.
