Might be a short thread I suppose but I'll kick it off.

I've been losing weight by calorie counting and exercise. Mostly walking because I don't want to do anything high impact that could mess my joints but I recently joined a gym too as the weather may make walking unpleasant some days soon.

Amongst the stuff I got to help were some body analyser scales with a phone app. Among the magic (probably BS) numbers it comes out with is something it calls metabolic age. It gets a start point as you tell the app your birthday. I'm 74. When I got them my MA was 77  . It has been going down as I slimmed. Today after another small weight reduction it dropped from 70 to 69 .

If I though Rachel Reeves was a member here I'd be keeping quiet as it shouldn't be long til I'm not entitled to a pension.

Well done, Klondike.    :upvote:     Keep at it and I'm sure you will reap the  rewards.

I did the 5 : 2 Diet a while back, and it is really good, no silly gimmicks,  and it works.
I soon got used to a different way of eating,  and  I lost 1 & half stone.

Unfortunately, I was foolish enough to neglect it and have put some back on again,  so I began it again last Monday.   Hope I can do it as well as before.

Blimey, if it's weight & age related I'm still 21.

Not sure it applies to Eskimos

Lapsing is going to be easy. I was an expert in it but this time I'm more determined.

Well done Klondy  :upvote:
It's harder to lose weight the older you get and I've piled the weight on in the last few years, probably since I did my knee in !  .  I've been eating Low Carb for a while now, basically I've cut out bread, pasta and potatoes, and sugar where possible.  I've lost a stone and a half but seem to have stalled for some reason, but they say that happens with most diets.

Having been a professional dieter since I had my son  I've tried Slimming World, Weight Watchers, 5 : 2, Cambridge etc etc... the list goes on but I've found low fat, which usually means more sugar doesn't work for me.

So I'm enjoying this low carb life and have even made my own bread.  Unfortunately I do miss potatoes and there is no substitute for ' roasties'

Good on ya !

Well done, Alex, too.

One problem is, the less mobile we become,  the weight loss is harder to master.

I used to walk for miles across the fields with my dogs,  and also did Yoga three times a week too.
But since I  developed arthritis in my ankles and feet,  I am not as mobile as I was anymore.
I find it very frustrating.

I still use the stepping machine that Crabby recommended some while back..

I am happy when my jeans do up without having to breath in..
Also when an email from the Lottery is displayed in my In Box

I've lost three stones, it's noticeable and I'm enjoying buying some new clothes. 😁. Pre diabetic after a blood test at the end of last year, my sweet tooth was the culprit!  I've been going to Slimming World with a couple of friends, and although I don't follow it precisely, the weekly weigh in has been a good challenge for me.  I've cut out lots of sugar, but I've found substitutes. Sugar free caramel syrup is great in coffee, or mixed with natural fat free yoghurt.  We eat mainly home cooked food, with lots of veg, not too much fat.

I've walked a bit more too, managed all the stairs in Chatsworth yesterday!  Last year I was using a stick, so the weight loss has helped my knee immensely.  I've gone to regular exercise classes in the pool for years, so for me it's more about what I was eating.  Hopefully I'll keep it off. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Keep going klondike, I feel much better for getting there.

I'm coming up to two stone down from my absolute high point but I was varying down about 8lbs from that then back up for quite a while. I think another 8lbs loss of gut fat or so which is in sight will be enough. Adding some muscle rather than that fat should see me back to around my current weight but a lot healthier. That will mean some mild gym work which is part of the plan I was given.

This adventure started with a pain in my leg which I managed to get a GP appointment for. Apart from the leg which was referred to a GP based physio and a statin alternative pill which I have since abandoned there was a referral to something new in our area a "Health and Wellbeing Advisor" who steered me towards a path to weight loss which I told him was an aim but not working for me. I'm still seeing him about once a month. Each session is a hour. A bit of steering from him has worked for me. On the weight loss side he tells me that some of his referees need to lose around my total body weight.

The leg pain went without any treatment. The physio explained what had been wrong (essentially a trapped nerve in my back) and by the time I saw him after a mix up on appointment location it had resolved itself.

I didn't really start this as a weight loss thread. I thought it would be a good parallel thread to "Things that pee you off" which is why it got the title it has. It seems there are plenty of slimmers out there though.

Well done Klondy.  No mean feat getting weight off, especially as we approach the cold season!!

It's easy in the summer, lots of salads and soft fruit.  🍓🍉🍑🥗🥙.  Tougher in cold weather when we need more fuel.

I certainly find it harder to keep off now I'm not nearly so active as I was. Not walking with Dageus every day doesn't help much either, but I really hate walking on my own I get nervous too often.

Excellent.

I see the good lord has decided my car is due for a wash and is getting on with the job at a time that doesn't inconvenience me. He can have the next 12 hours or so on the job so far as I'm concerned.
