I can confirm that Scrumpy sounds posh as I have spoken to her on the blower.

Yes, 'common as muck' is perfectly acceptable.

So can I, she has a really nice well-spoken neutral accent.

Quote from: Scrumpy on October 29, 2024, 08:03:57 AMI usually take a look at 'Let's write a limerick' which I enjoy..

Different accents and dialects for different places.. Really interesting..
Today the word used to rhyme with PASS was CASH..
Used by GrannyMac..
I am sure others look at what I write and think.. that does NOT rhyme..

Pass, lass, flash, mass, crash...

I use the short a, and I also have an r in my vocabulary. As in words like purple, but not in law and order (who is Laura Norder?). And if we're talking North/South, I'm very North, nearly as North as Raven.

I love the limerick thread btw, good exercise for the brain, and your humour shines through Scrumpy!  Lastly, Alex is right, no one speaks Scotch, it's just for drinking. But not for me, can't stand it, and I haven't got a red nose!  The cheek!

No.  I believe you Southerners would spell it as 'MOOK' though pronounce it as 'MAC'.

May I assume you are referring to the vowel sound, Gran?

The endings -ss and -sh are pronounced differently.

For some folk on here, "muck" would actually be an improvement.

I recall many moons back when a bit of a dick in the office was being sent on a short job in an office abroad (I don't recall exactly where). When he was out of earshot somebody (not me - not smart enough) said "Well he doesn't know the Spanish(?) for F*ck Off now but I guarantee he will went he gets back."
