What is this?

Anyone have any idea what this thing could be?
I happened to come across it whilst using Google Maps.  It's adjacent to a residential area to the east of Stockport, Cheshire.
My first idea was an ancient buried flying saucer!

OK, worked it out!  Any ideas?

I've used the coordinates to zoom around it but am no nearer. A sizeable man made mound with two pretty sturdy looking buildings on it. There is some sort of warning sign on the inner gate. Seems it may have its own little electric substation but that's all I can see.

Maybe something to do with pumping water but that's just a wild guess.

It's a local reservoir, there was virtually an identical one a couple of fields away where I lived in Watnall, Notts.

The buildings on top looked like pump stations I'd seen elsewhere, It clearly needed a fair bit of power or it wouldn't have had its own substation which I also recognised from elsewhere. I guessed they were maybe water pumps,

I've just had a look at the map that klondike posted & there's a school called Greave primary school so as I thought it was a reservoir I Googled Greave Reservoir.

Most reservoirs are open to the air (and much bigger of course), so what is the advantage of having a covered reservoir?

I'm fairly sure that the water has already been treated so it's to stop contamination.

A more accurate name is a local water storage facility.
