Mouse Question

I wonder if any of you can help me with this, it's a serious question because I don't know if I need to take the floor up.

My wife found a small mouse, he/she was alive, standing in the middle of the floor. When I approached it didn't run away, so I was able stun it with a backhander and take it out by the tail. It seemed to be dozy/half asleep/nearly dead.

My question is this, having found a possible point of entry a month ago, could this mouse have been hibernating somewhere in the house for 4-5 weeks, or is there another explanation.

I've normally found that mice try to come in when they are pregnant. I don't know what sex this one was.

It's getting cold outside and mice are starting to find warmer places, which tends to be indoors.  I know this because one of my cats has brought a couple up to our bedroom over the last fortnight.  It's pretty nigh impossible to block all points of entry.  Borrow a cat for a week or so.

We had mice in the kitchen nots so long back. We did mouse traps baited with peanut butter which we laid at night, caught 4 in total We haven't seen any since

I don't want to even think about this, I've already sprayed Peppermint oil all round doors and windows to keep out the spiders.  I wonder if mice hate Peppermint too ?

Ashy

I did read somewhere that mice do not like mint.

Just found this if its of any use -

" Essential oils that may be helpful in repelling rats and mice include peppermint oil, lemon oil, citronella oil, and eucalyptus oil. You can make an essential oil spray by mixing 2 teaspoons of oil with 1 cup of water or rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. "

P.S.  I'd be careful where you spray if you have got any pets though.  I don't know much about cats,  but a dog's sense of smell is thousands of times sharper than ours.   Also,  both Eucalyptus and Citronella can both be toxic to dogs.

Now that the prime minister has two cats, will he be declaring mice as gifts and paying tax on them?

Downing Street will need some larger cats if they're to stand a chance of dealing with the large rats that have recently moved in.

I imagine he'll be submitting all cat related expenses including taking them to see Formula 1 and the like. Plus some cat minders.

If they start to look like this you might need to consider leaving the planet.

I bought a bag of peppermint oil balls to put in the attic as I have mice .
They were quite expensive but supposedly repel rodents for three months

Good luck.
Let us know if they work please, Muddy.

Slug pellets are no good - you can't throw them hard enough but maybe those peppermint balls will work better.
