Phishing malware

My wife has a problem.  Please hear me out, because this is a serious question.
This morning, using Chrome on her laptop, she was attacked by phishing malware which she cannot remove.  I suggested she try Edge instead of Chrome (I use both without any problems), which she tried but the infection was there as well.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.  Thank you.

To provide further information, she was looking for online pictures of flowers and clicked on one which opened a web site under the name of 'p h e r y p h i c' (I don't want to type it without spaces).  Microsoft cannot see anything untoward, neither can Malwarebytes.
The problem is that whatever she does, a column of 'adverts' appears on the right-hand side of the screen, obscuring various important 'buttons', etc. which then cannot be accessed.

I hope that someone here with better computer skills than I possess can help.

Worth a go before trying (paid for) software?
Thanks Dex.  She has done this:

Open your Windows Security settings.
  • Select Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
  • Select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), and then select Scan now.

And now she has received a message:

BitLocker
Enter the recovery key to get going again

It provides a link to find a key, but she cannot access her computer until this message is removed.

She has just opened 'Chrome Privacy and Security'
then scrolled down to 'Safety Recommendations'
It listed sites which send many notifications and found the site which caused the problem
then she clicked to 'block all notifications' from that site.

She now seems to have sorted it!

Thanks, Dex.  It is so very helpful when you can ask others for help with computer problems.  None of us know everything and you have sorted out her problem.  Thanks again.

I think it might be helpful to have a section on this forum specifically for computer problems, Klon., though of course I should, perhaps, have posted this in 'Computers and Security' (I think).  Perhaps you might be good enough to move it when you have time.

Glad it worked out JB.
