Concerning Jay Slater missing in Tenerife..

I answered a post (over there) about Jay Slater.. I said that it was sad for his mum.. and I hope they soon find him..

A reply from the author of the thread said..
' It pays to look further before giving sympathy. Apparently he's not a nice lad after all. He was part of a machete wielding gang a couple of years ago who split a young man's skull open.. Not a lot of sympathy in the Daily Mail comments..
Fights with a heavily built eastern European about stolen Rolex.. Then he went off with two men in a car... Rolex is a word used for a certain drug.'

It would seem that the above is true ..
But.. His mum is heartbroken.. he is her boy.. and there can be no greater misery than losing one's child..
Nobody knows how their children / grandchildren will turn out.. Most parents do their best to get it right..

Many times i have heard 'My daughter/ son would never do that'.. WRONG.. We do not know what they are up to..
My granddaughter Martha .. such a good girl.. was caught smoking out of her bedroom window.. and a bottle of vodka found in her bedroom she said , 'belongs to someone else'.. She was still at college at the time..

Once again I say.. my heart goes out to Jay Slater's mother.. who's face shows all the misery she is going through..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Yes I agree with you Scrumpy, I saw on the Lunchtime News that the search has been called off.
As for our kids being good HAH, I got over that when my David was brought home by the police, there was an old abandoned mansion near where I lived back in the late 80s. The army had taken it over during the war and it was full of their stuff, David and pals broke in and used it as their own. Someone saw them coming n going and called the police.
Regan I knew was a wee scunner she was just clever enough not to get caught.

Apparently, Jay is not the first Brit to go missing on this island.   A few people have vanished, all men it seems and one man was found dead after two years missing.

His Mum must be heartbroken, as the days pass it doesn't look good.

It's a strange case, they said on the News that he left this property and if he had turned right (I think) he would have shortly come to a town, but for some reason he turned left and headed Into the hills. 🤷

My son .. as a teenager.. nicked the poshest car in the town and went for a joy ride with a mate.. Police caught him..  Such a good , polite boy.. Yeah! right..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

No idea where this lad was up to, other than he was an apprentice brick layer.  Youngsters make terrible decisions (as do we all).  He's served his time and may well have turned the corner now.  In the absence of any other known dodgy dealings recently, perhaps we ought to cut him some slack and assume that he was probably a reformed character and that his loss is something not to cheer about.

Scrumpy,  I saw the post 'on the other side'  that you mentioned,  and have replied to it.
I kinda had the feeling some thought why bother with him because of his past.
Am I allowed to copy/paste my reply here?

While I do agree about foolishness,  I'm sure none of us were born with a wise old mind, and I am sure this lad is not the only one who has forgot to charge their phone on occasions - especially while on a night out.  I daresay if he had known what was in store for him, he would have done things quite differently.

It is easy at our age, or while we're sitting comfy at home,  to see someone else's mistakes, but it doesn't change anything.

Trying to stick to just plain facts for a moment though,  whatever he may/may not have done in the past doesn't alter the fact he has gone missing.

Are rescuers only supposed to search for the good and righteous?

That's how I feel, anyway.

I can't comment with feeling angry re stuff on this over the way .
There seem to be people who take delight in the distress of others
