It's women who squander cash on pointless (and expensive and entirely unnecessary) things like perfume, soap, haircuts etc.  

If someone discovered that the moon had oceans of anti-wrinkle cream, there'd be no doubt whatsoever that it'd be women's greed/vanity that'd lead the way.
