Graham Thorpe, he of the left-hander's exquisite cover drive, has sadly died, aged just 55. He played 100 Tests for England, scoring 16 centuries and was probably our most graceful left-hand bat since David Gower

Played against him when he was a teenager at Farnham in the Surrey Championship. Clearly a very talented young man.

How very, very sad. Apparently Graham took his own life in a fit of depression

Met him through my 'neighbour' on many happy occasions. To me a re-incarnation of Ken Barrington the great Surrey and England no. 6. My first pick from all the 'modern' players (post 70's) to select an England batting line up from.

A damned fine footballer too of 'Premier League' standards. God bless dear chap and I will never forget you and that superbly elegant one legged hip pull/glide ...
