Quote from: dextrous63 on October 28, 2023, 06:03:17 PMHere's a question.. how long before your timepieces that aren't connected to radio waves/internet etc go out of sync by a few minutes?

The ones I have converted to GMT are:
- the cuckoo clock, which is not particularly accurate and which I adjust regularly anyway;
- an ancient electric clock which relies on the mains frequency, which is very accurate around 50 Hz, and consequently doesn't need adjusting - that will now stay on GMT all year.

There is still the battery-powered kitchen clock, which I'll leave to Marge.

All the others: computer, phone, watch, timer for outdoor lights, etc. change themselves, so come BST again I'll just have to accept that.

Just adusted the CH timer. Most of the others that need manual adjustment will get done as and when their being wrong annoys me. No idea if it is true or not but I was always told that clocks should only be movedforward w hich make the winter change a PITA. I have a whole bunch of watches that I never wear now.

I did my clock in the bedroom last night and left all the others for this morning.   This is just the kitchen too
All done now !

My father insistent that you should never move the hands of a clock or watch backwards - claimed he had been told it by a watch repairer many years ago. Don't see why it should apply to battery clock and watches, which, with one exception, are all I have
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

I turn the hands back but seem to remember someone telling me you shouldn't.
When I bought this house years ago 1980 something, it needed a lot doing to it. An old man had lived here and he was a clockmaker.  In what is now my bedroom there was a wooden workbench and bits and pieces where he did repairs.  Odd that the house ended up with someone who loves clocks !  Just thought I'd throw in that useless snippet.

I think the ones that chime hours may go wrong if the hands are turned back. The rest probably not.

My bedside clock is radio controlled but I noticed it hadn't picked up the change. Put it in a window and pushed the reset and it was correct within a few minutes.

The only one we have which I would not turn backwards is our mechanical cuckoo clock.
To set it back an hour (as recently), I simply stop the pendulum for an hour.
If it's running a minute or so fast, stop it briefly.
If it's running slow, I move the minute hand forward slightly.
Varying the speed is by adjusting the length of the pendulum.

I bought it in the Black Forest several years ago, and it's still going well without any cleaning or maintenance.

I have a bedside clock that 'ticks' merrily away.. I have to alter the hands forward/ backwards.. It has an alarm .. It is a bell that is hit by a something like a little hammer.. Just a cheap old thing...
It's like something out of Disney..
I would miss the ticking if it fell silent..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Accidentally turning on an alarm is a PITA.
