My Opthalmic department must be less busy than yours. I got a referral when I had severe dry eye and they ran a whole gamut of tests beyond dry eye which is pretty much untreatable anyway other than drops as needed. The dry eye is still annoying but not as bad as it was probably just by chance but they call me in every 6 months now for a check over with no notification of any severe problems.

I think for most health issues it's a postcode lottery. I have little faith in my own General Hospital for anything much having seen and heard of plenty of shoddy treatment there.

I don't believe that the MREH is 'too busy' to have responded to my urgent referral.

Ten months of ignoring an urgent referral requires investigation, which I intend to insist upon, if necessary by involving the press.

My belief is that someone involved has, perhaps unintentionally, 'filed away' the urgent referral, and I have every intention of pursuing it.

Time for a spot of table thumping JBR

I hope you can get looked at soon. As to any complaint ime the NHS is experienced in them and pretty much immune - it will be brushed off. They do that even when they kill people.

They do indeed.
I have been informed that I can expect to receive a resolution in writing by the 12th September.
Do I book in for, and pay for, another private examination before then?

If, as I expect, they cannot provide a reasonable explanation for ignoring the urgent referral, I wonder whether I ought to demand that they pay for my earlier private examination and a subsequent one if necessary.

In any event, I feel that I must publicise this matter after I receive some sort of explanation, especially as the nurse Lucy matter is so clear in public opinions right now!
