Well it won't come as any surprise, we knew it had to come. But we in the very North are also hearing rumbles about them.
That's going to chuff up the farmers. Glad Dunc sold the farm and got out, it's all so different from what it used to be.  :worried:

we've only had one day with rain since the 21st of May - virtually unheard of

We haven't heard anything about hosepipe bans here... yet.
However, we recently asked for a water meter.
Without one, our future water bill would have amounted to around £1000.
We were assured (independently) that with a water meter, it would cost around half of that.

Now we have the meter, we don't need hosepipe bans.  We just don't use any water we don't really need simply because we'd have to pay for it!
Having said that, Marge has been watering her plants (sparingly) and I have been obliged to top up our pond, as the poor goldfish would eventually suffocate without water!

I don't waste water, especially Dageus's. He needs a fresh top up several times a day in this heat and before I put fresh in his bowl I tip the older stuff into one of the flower tubs. :yahoo:

actually, the idea of a country which is normally pretty wet being unable to cope with a couple of weeks of hot, dry weather is a disgrace

I know, but the rivers are VERY low, some ponds are dried up along with streams ect. Not Good.

Sensible.
Since we got the water meter, I have been taking precautions too.

We have two dehumidifiers, one in the kitchen and one in the conservatory.
They, especially the kitchen one, extracts a couple of litres every day.
Rather than throw it into the sink, it goes into a plastic bucket in the kitchen which Marge then uses to water her plants and flowers.

Waste not, want not.

Looks like Scotland will be having it's first ban in a long time, and sooner rather than later.

we can fund bloody immigrants, HS2 and the like - but putting money into infrastructure? Nah!

The last one built in the UK was 'Bewl Water' - just south of Lamberhurst in Kent and straddling that county and East Sussex. Finished in 1975, a very beautiful place to visit. We lived at Battle at the time and I remember it opening. But thats 48 years ago and the country needs many more to facilitate all the immigrants we insist on giving freebies too.

back then the UK population was around 56 million - now it is nearly 70 million, but no increase in water infrastructure - crazy!

No increase in lots of other important things either.

Well, except for illegal immigrants, of course.
